My wife wants to get into reading so she can join me when reading in bed, etc. She would not like what I like; historical fiction, mysteries, westerns, some horror.
So ladies, what are some books, authors, series that you enjoy? What's the first book that got you reading? What's a good beginners book?
Her interests are dogs, healthcare, nutrition. Her favorite tv shows are mostly trash tv (reality, love after lockup type of stuff). She also likes Virgin River on netflix (outdoorsy drama) and game of thrones. She would probably like a book with some romance and/or sex in it.

So every now and then I’ll do a beach read / romance novel to cleanse the palate and shake up the reading rotation
Something like. “ funny story” by Emily Henry
Anything by Abby Jimenez or Kristin Hannah
“ the nightingale” by Kristin Hannah was really well done. It’s historical fiction but about this pair of sisters during Nazi occupied France and their survival with kids. I really liked it. It may be a tough pitch initially to her but I think once she gets going she’ll like it.

Not a chick but books by Rebecca Yarros are really popular right now. I think it's romantasy.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. You’ll thank me later.

Not a chick
Weird. She probably should have started with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
This is why she doesn’t read.
Bravo has a website. Tell her to read that on her phone.

Thanks for the helpful response

Lady reader here but my taste in books is extremely nerdy non-fiction.
I agree with Philzilla. If your wife hasn't gotten into reading on her own by now it is unlikely that she will at this point. You say her motivation is to join you when you are reading in bed, so Philizilla's suggestion was not a bad one.
Back in the day when print magazines were a thing that could've been an option.
Other ideas would be to take her browsing at a brick-and-mortar store/the library or install the Libby app and have her browse for titles on that.

Let Me Tell You About Jasper
Not a great book in the usual sense (you can't put it down) but any dog person will enjoy it. Also no sad ending because Jasper was still alive when the book was written.

Get her a Kindle for Mother’s Day/her birthday and let her pick out books that sound good to her. There’s an app called Libby that lets you “rent” books from local libraries and is a good way for her to have a list of books waiting to be read.

A lot of libraries, mine included, are moving away from Libby and going to Cloud Library, which isn't really that bad, but you can't read them on a Kindle. However, the wait times are a lot shorter.
I would also recommend a Kindle though and a Kindle Unlimited trial. There are not many books on there targeted towards men, but my wife loves all of those romance novels that they have. Maybe your wife will like them as well, but they also have a good selection if she's into other stuff.

The throne of glass series by the same author
She then wrote a 3rd series and started interconnecting the worlds more, so if you get her in with one of those she will end up reading what I think is around 15ish books

I’ve read a couple of her novels and enjoyed them. Not as sappy as most rom-coms and great for a beach read. My faves were “Happy Place” and “People We Meet on Vacation.”

I have been searching for books like it ever since I finished it. I like the friends to lovers /college/flashbacks. All 3 tropes I enjoy.
Couldn’t recommend that one enough

- Melanie Karsak is a favorite of mine (she has a lot of Kindle Unlimited books), a lot of hers are real historical characters (predominantly female) with a fantasy twist to it. I know a lot of women who enjoy these but aren't your typical historical fiction folks.

A woman after my own heart.
- A Court of Thorns and Roses series (I'm getting ready to start A Throne of Glass from the same author - Sarah J. Maas).
- Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt is one of my favorite books I've read in the last couple of years.
- Abby Jimenez books are great, short, sweet reads with romance and some sex. There's usually 2-3 books in a series but very light, fun reading.
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is what I'm currently reading and it's been pretty good so far. About 70% in and should finish it tonight or tomorrow.
ETA: Finished TSHEH and it was fantastic. Recommend for the wife.

JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. the stories are good, the world is complex, the spin-offs make sense but stand alone, and there are like 59439 of them.
Bourbon Kings set by Same Author is great as well.
the modern set stuff by Lisa Kleypas is good; she does historical stuff too, but I haven't read any of that, so I can't comment on it.

Anything by Emily Henry, Lucy Score, or Elin Hilderbrand. If she likes thrillers go with Freida McFadden.

It begins, and maybe ends, with Sarah J. Maas.
I suppose that Diana Gabaldon fits the bill too.
