Two of the recent ones I've read are The Great Deluge by Douglas Brinkley (Hurricane Katrina) and What Stands In A Storm by Kim Cross (April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak).

Any recommendations on similar books which take deep dives into these types of events? I'd also be interested in other books about those two events as well as any others.

I read “Rising Tide” by John Barry and highly recommend. It’s about the Mississippi River Flood of 1927. Parts of it are a bit dull because it deals with the bureaucratic legalese of the formation of the levee structure but overall it’s a good book.

Horses of the Storm: The Incredible Rescue of Katrina’s Horses, by RT Fitch.

Maybe not as in-depth about the storm but very in depth about the horse rescue. Many LSU faculty in the book.

How so many errors in that book made it past the editors, I'll never understand. Simple things like street names and park names. He lived here and fricked up the easy shite.

The Worst Hard Time

Maybe a departure vs what you are looking for, but a really great book about the Dust Bowl.

1 Dead in Attic by Chris Rose. Not really an in depth look at Katrina itself, but more of a series of articles about the human element of the disaster.

He fricked up the more complicated shite too. This book is nothing more than a money grab by a smart guy who also happens to be a hack.

Hurricane Audrey: The Deadly Storm of 1957 by Cathy Post and/or Hurricane Audrey by Susan McFillen-Goodsen and Nola Wittler-Ross

More like a collection of memoirs than a researched story but will show how horrific that Louisiana storm was even though people outside the Lake Charles area dont even know about it anymore. Had the most deaths of a Louisiana hurricane until Katrina.

Lots of people trapped on roofs or in trees with poisonous snakes.
Crazy shite.

The fifth risk - michael lewis

It’s about the biggest risks facing the world and how we’ve very narrowly missed completed destroying ourselves multiple times. Might not be exactly what you’re asking for but it’s extremely interesting and talks about plenty of unknown disasters in recent US history that could have been much more serious than they ended up being.
