I'd like to read a book or two on Patton. Any of you Ole War Skule guys have some favorites?
Thus far, I've come across Patton: A Genius For War and The Past Lives and Reincarnation of General George S. Patton.

Patton on Leadership is a fantastic business book that anyone in a supervisory role should read.

If you are looking for a quick easy read, Bill O’Reilly’s Killing Patton is pretty good.

“Killing Patton”. Good book, easy read.

Not a book but I was talking to this old gentleman on Veterans Day & he said that in the last year of the war, he was Patton's backup jeep driver. He said that the official Army report on Patton's death was "100% fabrication". Where the accident supposedly occurred was in the middle of nowhere & the other vehicle supposedly responsible for the fatal accident disappeared by the next morning. To never be found. The official MP accident report was removed from the accident folder, never to be seen again either. But "there was no reason for another vehicle to be in that area at that time, it was in the middle of nowhere". The driver of Patton's jeep that nite was shipped back home the next day & he himself was removed from his driving duties the next day as well. He said that Patton's wife's request to have her husband buried in Arlington National Cemetary was denied & he was buried in a regular military cemetary in France.

I was intrigued by the O’Reilly book discussion of the accident which suggested he may have been assassinated. I’d never heard of that prior to that book. Cool to connect with that guy in person.
My only connection is that my Dad got George C. Scott’s autograph for me in Hattiesburg Mississippi while he was there filing a movie. I still have it somewhere.

Patton is buried in Belgium. I believe it was his conviction that a soldier should be buried where he fell.

Sorry, was relying on the old timer's memory re his burial. But he was emphatic that Patton's wife pushed to have him re-buried in Arlington & Congress, not the Army, was against it. He also said he landed on Omaha Beach that first day & had to get up & walk out of Saving Private Ryan, "too graphic", after that first landing scene.

I'm just making jokes where I see the potential, I'm not giving you a hard time at all. We have to make such big swings between accuracy and irony here (in the diff boards), I don't assume anyone is intentionally being dumb, beyond at least one or two people, anyway. :) Sometimes that guy is me.

The Patton Papers Vol. 1-3 By Martin Blumenson
It covers his whole life, and has lots or personal correspondence and diary entries. He kept a diary most of his life. Best book I have found to understand the man.
Martin Blumenson also had a pretty good book called The Battle Of The Generals about the Falaise Gap.

Yes. I’ve a first edition in excellent condition with its dust jacket. I think it’s the best overall Patton book available.
