I’ve gotten to where I almost only buy hardcover. And sometimes, I can find a nice leather bound version for nearly the same price.

I buy almost all digital now. If I have to go with a physical copy, I'll buy whatever is cheapest

If its something I know i will probably re-read a few to, i get hardback if I can find a reasonable used price (abebooks.com is my go to). Sometimes I look and a book has harback and paperback for similar used prices so I get hardback at that time as well.

If I'm pretty confident I am not going to want to read the books multiple times, I usually try to either get it at the library or listen to it for free.

I prefer hardback. I'll only buy paperback when the book wasn't printed in hardback, but I rarely buy a book right when released. I wait until the price comes down and buy mostly used in good condition.

I buy both. I find lots of hardcover books on sale at Barnes & Noble. And some authors, I pre-purchase, so those are typically hard cover. I also buy paperbacks if I find one I like.

Pretty much only hardcover.

I also look around for special editions of books that I really like. I particularly like Folio Society editions.

Hardcover. You can usually buy hardcover in "like new" condition at Thriftbooks for under $5. I only buy paperback if I can't get in hardcover. Occasionally I'll pay full price for a new book....if I can't wait.

I love paperback. Especially mass market . Fits the hands better - I had to buy rhythm of war hardcover though.

Hardcover for home.

Paperback for traveling and flights. I think every paperback I’ve bought in the last decade has been bought in an airport.

I don't get how paperbacks are easier to hold. They are lighter but you have to force the pages open while reading. Hardbacks just lay open to the page you need. But then I have arthritis in my thumb and holding a paperback can be painful.

I prefer paper backs too for the reading experience cause i can bend them around all and hold with one hand.
