Strong Belwas, before he was poisoned, deserves a place on the list as well IMO.

That worked real well for Beria dondarrion didn't it?

The ones still living are:

1) the hound
2a) hotah
2b) victarion
3) strong belwas
3b) barristan selmy

Living? The Hound for me as well. Even though if Howland Reed is still alive he could take the cake for me.

No longer with us? Arthur Dayne. When a Stark, a Lannister, and another one of the arguably biggest badasses in Westeros (Selmy) thinks that highly of you you're the real deal.

FYI for the Dunk and Egg fans, we should be getting the next installment on the She-Wolves of Winterfell later this year.

I agree with Belle

Hound currently - Selmy #2 only because of current age, and he still may be the better fighter / swordsman. Remember that GRRM says that Selmy was Arthur Daynes equal - Dawn was the only thing that gave Dayne the edge.

Let's get some conversation going about Dany, said no one ever, but seriously I have a thought here. I am expecting her to roll up on Mereen, with a giant khalasar of Dothraki screamers, and a over aggressive dragon that she has somewhat tamed. Upon arriving and minutes before unleashing hell, Victarion sounds the Dragon Horn and it actually works. Then what? Who has control of the dragons? If it is Victarion, does he just command them to destroy all of Dany's foes as some sort of proposal gift? Does Euron have some spell worked in where the dragons will fall under his will despite not being there? (I have a storng suspicion that Crow's Eye is actually on board one of the ships) If the dragon horn works, I have zero clue what will actually go down.

Dany tells Khal Jhaqo that her dragon is about to fry his arse. Drogon, however, hears the horn and flys away. Jhaqo then makes Dany his little bitch and makes her walk back across the Dothraki Sea and leaves her at Veas Dothraki.

I think Danny can/will win Victarion over. She is the type of woman he likes, and he is the type of man she likes. He can also giver her the kick in the arse she needs to get going and bust some heads.

I do not know how or even if the horn will work they way we have been told. I doubt that Euron would just give Victarion the dragon binding horn without some other motive. Maybe Euron believes he will control the dragons becasue he is Victarion's master , but something is going on there.

Victarion has three horn blowers for each of the dragons. My guess would be that the first two dragons hear the call. The third horn blower, which would have called drogon, sees that he will die and does not blow the horn. Thus Drogon stays with Dany.

However, I don't think the horn works for Victarion the way he has planned. The instructions for the horn are:

1. "Blood for Fire. Fire for Blood" and
2. "No mortal man may blow the horn and live."

I think this means that Victarion is going to have to die and be revivied by the red priest in order to bound the horn.

So, what happens? When the horn is blown in the opening of TWOW, it attracks the two dragons in Meereen. Those two dragons get pissed and start burning ships, armies, and Meereen.

I read it as the horn must be blown three times before any dragon is bonded to it. Not one blow for each dragon. So if they stopped at two.... none of the dragons will be bonded to it.

I think Dani regains rule over the Kalasahr after Drogon roasts the new Kal.

The army outside Mereen is crushed between the Kalasahr and Victarions fleet.

I think someone needs to pour blood on that horn and throw it in a fire and it'll blow itself

To be honest, I don't have a clue as to how that horn works.

However, I suspect that Euron might have already bonded the horn to himself. And he is just using Victarion as a means to blow the horn and have a dragon start flying for Westeros. :Ifrinkindunno:

ETA: "Blood for Fire. Fire for Blood". That kind of makes it sound like a Targ needs to blow the horn.

"Fire and Blood" - House Targaryen

Can the dragons' attraction to the Targs be traced back to a similar horn in the past? Will the horn bind dragons to the Greyjoy bloodline the way they seem bound to the Targs? That could explain Euron's motivation.

I'm pretty sure all the Valyrian nobility of old mastered dragons. It just so happens that the targaryens and their dragons were the only ones to survive the doom since they had already been settled on dragonstone for hundreds of years.

Now I think that the horn is just one way to bind a dragon as Dany seems to have bound drogon to her without the use of one.

Leigh Butler over on Tor.com has been reading the series for the first time and then commenting on each chapter. She averages 2/3 chapters a week. It brings me back to when I first read the books and the ideas that I had.
She just finished Clash of Kings and will be starting Storm of Swords next week. I have no idea how she will only reach 2 or 3 chapters a week reading it. I flew through that book because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
