I agree. I wasn't expecting this when I started this thread at all. I've never been able to talk about the series with other people like this before. I'm still amazed at how many people on this site really KNOW the series. This thread is full of knowledge and amazing conversation.

May this thread never die, but rise again, harder and stronger...from page 2.

At the bottom of 1st page. Unacceptable.

Best thread on this site.

I'm in the middle of my book 4 re-read and it has been suggested that I read dunk and egg before re-reading 5. Anyone have a link?

Someone from this board already sent me some files but I couldn't open them.

Thanks.

When do you think Ageon will be given Blackfyre, the Valerian sword of Ageon the Conquer and symbol of the Targaryens. The Golden Company has held it before and I think still has it. It would be a way to introduce him as the son of Rhaegar and legitimate king of the Seven Kingdoms.

Prior to the release of Dance I had read the transcripted versions of Martin's public readings on Westeros. In the Tyrion chapter where he first meets Duck and the HalfMaester they are speaking in High Valyrian and Tyrion can only pick out a few words but they ask Illyrio if he had brought "the sword". But that exchange was gone when the book was published. Of course the transcript could have been flawed. The only thing I'm sure of is that Bittersteel wouldn't have left it on the battlefield when he recovered Daemon Blackfyre's body.

LINK to the LINK for Dunk and Egg Stories

I'm not really sure that the Blackfyre sword is with the Golden Company. It may have been returned to House Targaryen when Maelys Blackfyre was defeated by Ser Barristan.

There seems to be a popular theory that Littlefinger has Blackfyre hidden in the tapestries he requested from Cercei. Of course, a Littlefinger / Varys alliance could put Blackfyre right back into the hands of Aegon Blackfyre.

Oh my god.... That would be incredible. I would fricking love a Littlefinger and Varys alliance. 2 of my favorite characters (Littlefinger is #1). What evidence is there for this theory?

See this is something that I've missed somewhere. Where did he request those? I'm just curious.

In AFFC, Cersei says that Littlefinger's "last letter mentions the rebels only briefly before beseeching me to ship him some old tapestries of Robert’s.” The comment about the tapestries just seemed odd.

In a later Sansa chapter, Littlefinger mentions the tapestries. It just seems odd that tapestries come up again.

quote:

Petyr laughed. “Perhaps I shall. Or better still, to our sweet Cersei. Though I should not speak harshly of her, she is sending me some splendid tapestries. Isn’t that kind of her?”

So, the crackpot theory is that something is rolled up in the tapestries. What better to roll up in a tapestry than an ancient Valyerian steel sword. Or a dragon lance. Or the Staff of Magius. Or a red herring.

Ah okay. I remember that now. That is odd.

I just can't imagine Littlefinger being made the stewart of Blackfyre though.

Sadly, I don't put anything past GRRM so I can't say for sure he wouldn't be.

So I'm convinced we need to do a group reread of the books at some point on here. Do a couple chapters a week. It may be the only way we all stay sane during the wait for the next book.

If nothing else we need to do a group read of the next Dunk and Egg novella when it comes out.

There are other good book series out there you know.

Though it'd be cool to see everyone's reactions as they read through on that.

There were two Targaryen family swords. Dark Sister is last known to have been carried by Bloodraven. I think its a safe assumption that he wouldn't have been allowed to carry it to the wall and there's no mention of it afterward so it must be hidden in the Red Keep, right? Where it could've been found by Littlefinger. Maybe.

Are the two swords mentioned at all in the main books? I'm thinking all we know of them is from D&E but I've been wrong before.

Anyway, there's something important in those tapestries.

The more I think about it the more I wonder if there isn't something ON the tapestries instead of wrapped in them. Tapestries, especially royal ones, tend to tell a story or portray a scene. Maybe it has the location of something Littlefinger is looking for? I can't imagine Littlefinger letting something significant like a sword just sit wrapped in a tapestry and then request it from Ceresi at the risk that she or someone else might see what's wrapped in it.
