I like it. So long as he says Joffrey deserved it and was nothing more to him than a sport of seed on the wall, then I'm fine with it.

Same here.

Also looks like they won't screw up Jon Snow's writing for once. Jon Snow looks like he's stepping up majorly in this trailer to fight for the Watch and become Lord Commander.

Also, who is that girl slapping Ramsay? I don't remember that happening.

This is my major distraction from the trailer. The guy who plays Theon honestly should look like hell and completely fearful. He should not look like a bad arse.

God I love that "WHERE IS THE GOLD IN THE VILLAGE" scene so much in the books.

Oh and Arya getting Needle back .

I'm really curious to see how they'll show the Hound "dying". And if they do the whole Gravedigger thing next season and use Rory McCann to be the Gravedigger/aka Sandor.

That Theon sighting is probably during the "clean up."

But still...shouldn't his hair be grey and sparse?

And I thought he refused to shower when Roose offered him a bath and new clothes?

I just hope they do theon right.

His POV chapters in ADWD are in my opinion Martin's best work.

I absolutely hated reading Theon's POV in ACOK, but his chapters in ADWD are also among my favorites in the whole series. I love the Reek III chapter when he's talking to Roose and is introduced to Lady Dustin is brilliant. "A peaceful land, a quiet people."

ETA: Who is Mel talking to at the end of the trailer??

Definitely agree. That fight scene is going to be amazing.

Really curious to see how they "re-introduce" the Mountain into the show. I feel like a lot of Hodors who haven't rewatched the seasons probably either: 1) Don't remember him 2) Vaguely remember Sandor fighting him at the Tourney of the Hand. Maybe show Sandor telling Arya another story about how he hates Gregor (I think in S3 with Beric he said "You're fighting ghosts but my brother is still alive" and then he spits on the ground in contempt. And then he tells Arya that Gregor killed someone for snoring.) and then in the next scene show Gregor pillaging and raping perhaps?

I envisioned a guy way worse off, but I imagine they wont do it.

He supposed to have thinning grey hair, missing teeth, emaciated, etc.

His character was truly tragic. I honestly felt bad for him.

ETA: Unlike Joffery and Cersei and Jamie and Tywin, frick the Lanisters! They get what they deserve.

Same here. Really hated Theon before ADWD but pitied him reading his chapters.

I thought they were going to go for the grey/white hair look too because Alfie Allen had this super blonde peroxide dye job on his hair recently:

I wouldn't lump Jaime in with Joffrey, Cersei, and Tywin.

He's done some atrocious things, no doubt, but he's on a redemption arc. I would argue that ASoS-AFFC-ADWD Jaime is not the same as the Jaime in AGoT & ACoK.

Jaime is the most "Ned" like character by the end of book 5. I'd say that's his arc.

He is the anti-Ned. He's the man who sees honor for what it is and will do what it takes to succeed. It's what I love about the character is how in some sort of weird way, he's a reflection of Ned.

But out of the main characters, I think Jon is most like Ned.

Once he loses his hand he changes. GRRM basically killed off a character by cutting off his hand.

This. He does, in a really weird way, remind me of Ned. And I think he's going to fulfill his promise to Cat.

FWIW I also think that Tyrion is going to become more like Tywin. "He's Tywin's son" as Genna stated and he's definitely becoming a darker shade of grey. Tyrion=Tywin, and I think Jaime=becoming more like Ned, or Davos perhaps.

Actually, the Davos comparison works quite well. Davos is a genuinely good guy (with a dark past as a smuggler) but he knows how to be pragmatic and sees things for what they are. He's also going to go find Rickon. He's also a great friend and consiliare for Stannis and he tends to balance out Stannis's harsh, honor/judgment, puritanical nature.

Call me crazy, but I think that Jaime is going to go to Jon upon learning R+L=J. Barristan goes to one Targ, Jaime goes to the other. Why else would D&D add that Jaime-Jon conversation in the PILOT episode of the series!!?? I 100% think they're going to meet.

Jon is like Ned, but I think he's more pragmatic and willing to get his hands dirty. He's not as experienced as some of the other players in the Game of Thrones but he is/was the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. To me, Jon is a natural born leader. I also don't think he's like Robb or Ned because he didn't marry Ygritte and choose his own doom for love like Robb did (or do his duty like Ned did for Cat).

Would Ned or Robb have approved of or even thought about joining the Wildling Thenn clan to the Northern Karstarks? Definitely don't think so, but I think it was a great political move by Jon. Jon knows that he needs the Wildlings and vice versa to fight off the true threat of the Others. He's thinking about the impending doom on the Realm unlike the Southrons who are too busy moving their chess pieces, a la the Tyrells, Varys, Littlefinger, Martells. Can't wait for Winter to blow up in their faces and screw up their games.

Also, Would Ned or Robb have the clever idea to swap Mance's son with Craster's? I'm not so sure. Ned knew how to keep Jon's parentage a secret; I think he may have considered the baby swap if he was in the same situation.

But Jon is different from Ned. His similarities to Ned are surface level, and of course he's going to hold Ned's lessons to heart since he was his father figure/his Uncle. But Jon has certain traits that are probably more from his Targ side coming out. As 'shallow' as this may seem, it seems like women flock to him/are drawn to him: Ygritte, Alys Karstark, Melisandre, Val. He definitely gets that from Rhaegar; all the women swooning over him, yet he's completely oblivious. Rhaegar was melancholy; I think Jon has a bit of this brooding, introverted personality like Rhaegar. He also subscribes to the Old Northern ways that Ned held close.

With that being said, I tend to think Robb was the most like Ned out of all of his kids and that Arya is the most like Lyanna and Brandon with her wolf's blood; Rickon has the wolf's blood too. Bran and Sansa seem more like the Tullys in temperament although Bran is essentially the embodiment of the Old Gods. And I think that Sansa's story parallels Lyanna's moreso than Arya's.

Oh, and would Ned have cut Janos' head off since "the man who passes the sentence must swing the sword"? I hope so.

I think Jon is more different from Ned than Robb. Jon is more of a realist, IMO.
