I hate the Cowboys too . But GRRM is an extreme football fan; he records ALL the games and watches them. No wonder why his books are never out on time!!!

Ahhhh I thought he harped on the star more than other emblems

As a Cowboys fan I am now more irritated that he taking so long to finish the books since he is wasting time by adding in stupid shite like this

The "frick it, lets push Thanksgiving back to December 3rd" was the funniest part of the last episode imo

It was actually a result of a bet with a friend of his named Patrick who is a big Cowboys fan I think. Told him he'd write him into the next book, and that's how he did it.

That and "the pizzas are coming; I promise they'll be here in 3 hours!" had me loling so much. But I felt like South Park over exaggerated the amount of "wieners" in the show.

Definitely. I'll admit I don't watch the show regularly but have seen most of the episodes and had to think hard about whether I had seen any male genitalia.

Could only recall Hodor- but their take on the theme song was hilarious

The only ones I can recall are Hodor, Theon, and that random male prostitute that Loras banged in S3.

Other than that, can't think of any.

Does anyone else think Petyr Baelish to be the main antagonist of A Song of Ice and Fire? Everything that has happened so far has been the result of him. It's obvious to me he enacted this whole scheme to get the Lannisters and the Starks warring against one another to win the throne for himself.

I'm starting to think that since "Bael" is in his last name that he's going to have a child with Sansa/paralleling Bael the Bard. Either that or it's a total red herring because you have the Beauty & the Beast motif with Sansa & the Hound. So who knows; GRRM is throwing so much at us to trick us .

But I really don't see LF wanting to be King. He wants to see the same feudal system that denied him wanting Cat to fall into utter chaos and ruin. He likes being a schemer behind the scenes. Whereas Varys is mainly only screwing over the people he thinks are going to affect his long term plan of Faegon taking the throne.

Other than the Others, if you had to boil it down, yes I do believe Littlefinger is the main antagonist of the series. He is enemies (whether they know it or not) of basically every single character in the series. He has no real friends, he is manipulative, cunning, and is responsible for just about everything that happens.

But I do think you mistake Littlefinger's motives. He is not after the throne, but rather to destroy everything it stands for. Littlefinger's duel with Brandon changed him greatly, and he now seeks to destroy everything that kept him from Cat. He took a particular grudge against House Stark and Tully, but destroying House Stark was his first objective. In his mind, he's succeeded. He is now the Lord of the Riverlands, he will soon be the unofficial Lord of Winterfell if everything goes to plan, and he continually pisses on the Stark/Tully graves by manipulating Cat in miniature form to do his bidding.

With all that basically accomplished, he now aims to destroy the highborn system at large. He will never allow there to be peace as long as the highborn system exists, and wishes to kill them all. Considering that just about all of our characters are highborn, he is thus their enemy.

What all has Varys done to affect the main plot up to this point? The only thing he's done that had huge ramifications at this point is playing Aerys against Rhaegar. Varys is playing a much more secretive and elaborate game than Littlefinger is. It really took up to the end of ADWD for Varys' plot to come forth and really affect Westeros. LF murdering Jon Arryn affected the plot from the start, and just about anything that has caused chaos from that point forward has been Littlefinger's doing, not Varys. We're about to see Varys game in the next novel, but up to this point, Littlefinger has badly outplayed Varys.

I agree. Varys's plan centers around Faegon. Littlefinger's plan centers around total destruction.

FWIW I think both Varys and Littlefinger will be dead by the end of the series. Would love to see Sansa kill Littlefinger and Arya (in FM form) kill Varys.

Here is my take on Littlefinger that I posted over 200 pages ago:

quote:

My crackpot view of Littlefinger:

Littlefinger, in my mind, represents America. Littlefinger is the self-made man, the product of Westeros's equivalent of the "American Dream". He is a merchant who sees the chivalry and feudalism of the Seven Kingdoms as a backwards, counter-productive system. He wants to bring about the end of that system, bringing about an economical, as well as political, revolution of thought; creating a more free market and banking economy run by the merchants than a feudal kingdom of merchants (think Renaissance era Florence).

Of course, in this new world of capitalism, Littlefinger will put himself as the head of the merchants, like the Medici, and through Sansa, will attempt to recapture the lost love of his youth.

Littlefinger's story, however, unlike America's, will be a tragic one

I completely agree. I think LF and Varys are very separate at this point, to where in the next novel, neither of their plans will intersect. Varys plan focuses on the South, while Littlefinger's focuses on the North, and both will have apparently secured each of their territories at the end of WoW. Tyrion will be the wildcard once he and Dany's army arrive in Westeros completely without allies. The true fight won't be between Dany, Jon, Sansa, and Aegon, but between Littlefinger, Varys, and Tyrion. That will be the stage going into the final novel, and aside from Tyrion and maybe Jaime, the Lannisters will not be a factor.

As for their deaths, I think Littlefinger will die about 1/3 into ADOS, and I'm hoping that Varys dies in the Epilogue as we get into his head and how and why he failed, and then one of his "little birds" that he smuggles with him out of King's Landing stabs him, and then reveals herself as the one bird that got away.

I think Varys is more big picture oriented while Littlefinger likes to shake shite up in the short term and exploit the chaos.
