Dude it was 7 vs 3 and Ned still had to rely on Howland to save his life.

My problem with Benjen is I believe he would've went to Castle Black first. He is far too loyal to break his oaths to the nights watch
Yeah, this is why I think he has to be North of the Wall waging some kind of shadow war, if he is in fact alive.

You mean there are theories that have someone other than Ned as his father? I mean, I could see Lyanna I guess, since all descriptions of Jon describe him as looking very "Stark-ish". I assume this would also mean that Coddington is not really with Aegon?

So Jon's coming back?

Hooded man? I've read all five books buy for some reason I'm forgetting about this.

I denied that for a while, but am starting to believe you may be right. I just don't know why Martin would not have spelled it out clearly. I think that Benjen found out about the power of Dragonglass, and has been burying stashes like the one Ghost dug up for years. I think he has been fighting a shadow war because he has known that the Night's Watch has become weak.

It wasn't made clear that he died.

It is basically taken as fact among fans that Rhaegar is Jon's father. All the clues point to that being the case and that Rhaegar didn't kidnap Lyanna she went with him willingly.
I don't see why that would make Connington or Aegon a phony though.

What clues? My bad on "Coddington". I just finished ADWD a few days ago, and probably need to read them again to catch some of this stuff.

I thought Rhaegar only had 2 kids (a boy and a girl)?

Re read the chapter "A ghost in winterfell" in ADWD when you get a chance. When Theon is walking the yard right after yellow dick is found dead he comes across a man who recognizes him and Theon shows him his hand and missing fingers. Its just a strange scene that a lot of speculation has been centered on. It could very easily turn out to be nothing though.

Most of them stem from Ned's time in the black cells when he is having his flashbacks to the tower of joy.
Why were three members of the Kingsguard there if not to protect the heir?
Lyanna was said to die in her bed of blood, Martin has used the term bloody bed to signify child birth multiple times throughout the series.
Lyanna was found clutching blue roses when she died, the same type of rose Rhaegar gave her when he crowned her at harrenhall.
She made ned "Promise her". We believe that promise was to keep her son safe from Robert.
Ned feels immense guilt towards Jon at the end and wishes to have one more conversation with him, however he doesn't have these feelings towards any of his other children.

The only two the realm knows about and Robert had them both killed. Which is why keeping Jon's identity a secret would be of the upmost importance to Ned.

Yeah, I can understand that and don't really have a hard time doubting there could be another child from Rhaegar. If Ned knew the kids were the offspring of his sister, he absolutely would have protected them too, so that is no stretch. Thanks for cluing me in on some of the things that lead people to the theories on Jon.

The hooded man is either the Blackfish, Benjen Stark, or some Stark household soldier.
