Glad to see some love for the Theon characters. He's definitely not one of the most likable characters, but I'd say next to Tyrion and Jaime, he's probably the most fully realized.

Haven't thought about that, but would Stannis really believe what he was hearing and would the Northmen still even consider sparing Theon after all he's done?

If Ned Stark's son asked them to spare Theon? Yeah, I'd say they'd be willing to spare him. Most of the reason they want him dead is because he supposedly killed Bran and Rickon. Without that, they'd view him only bit worse than Asha and her crew because of the supposed traitor bit.

As far as Stannis believing, I think if a heart tree randomly starting talking again it would shock and awe some folks, particularly the northmen. On top of that Bran could probably prove his bonafides if he can truly talk to them.

Davos would just be too far away to get there in time to save Theon, and I don't think any of us think Theon is quite done yet, way too much time was spent on him in the last book. If Martin offs him in the beginning of the next book I would be furious for him wasting so much time on top of wasting our time with the Martell kid in Mereen.

Yeah, honestly, I would have just had it happen after Barristan takes the king hostage and just have Barristan walk in on it. I really don't understand why they've gone outside of Arrieanne's point of view with the Martells, and I think that its been a great disservice to the story and her character. Like I give a frick what a member of the Kings Guard that is instantly killed or her guard thinks. I care what she thinks.

Theon and Jaime are probably the best representations of how well GRRM can develop a character. Especially Theon.

Yep, particularly as examples of how well he can twist our perceptions of his characters at a moments notice.

anyone else in here watch Dexter? This chick would have made a great Queen Cersei:

Yvonne Strahovsky

She's not enough of a bitch. Definitely closer to what I imagined Cersei's beauty looking like

I always thought Trica Helfer aka Cylon Six from BSG would have made an excellent Cersei.

Luckily Headey improved a bunch in the second season actingwise, even though she still looks totally wrong for the role.

The writing moved away from the slutty Cersei in the books so what does it matter? Headey is great at playing a regal bitch. Her scenes with Tyrion were awesome to watch.

Yeah, I just imagine the same actress who plays Cersei, but with fatter cheeks. Kinda looks like her really.

As much as Cersei is one of my most hated characters in the series, she is far more than just a regal bitch. The seductress is a part of who she is in the series, and she doesn't move away from it at all until ADWD (and even then it's only because of the walk of shame), so it has a major bearing on the TV series for quite a while yet.

She was flat out terrible as Cersei in season 1, but did a good job in season 2 with the personality, hopefully it continues in season 3 and 4 and she can manage the deranged and going psycho parts of Cersei.

In the middle of yet another reread, about midway through GoT, and I feel like an idiot. I had no idea Illyrio was the one talking to the disguised Varys when Arya got lost in the dungeons and overheard them talking under the Red Keep.

I'm not sure this has been discussed in this thread, but let's talk about the Tattered Prince. Maybe I missed it on my reads, but what does he want with Pentos. How is Selmy going to give it to him?

I've read theories on Westeros where the description of Illyrio's demeanor and movements by Arya is much different than what we see through Tyrion. For instance they were saying he was walking or moved much quicker than the fat tub of shite Tyrion describes him as. We know he was a capable sellsword, so what may Martin potentially be getting at?

I think he just wants to be underestimated by any potential enemies.

My thoughts are that dragons weren't always only found in Valyria. We already know that dragon glass was used in the first Others invasion along the time that the watch was formed, that was before the Targs and people of Valyria traveled over and perhaps before Valyria existed.

That's why I'd like to reconcile where this story took place. If Dragons had free reign over the world thousands of years before the coming of the First Men to Westeros, then The Ice Dragon can't be in Westeros...less the main characters would be COTF and not human.

Gotta be careful in assuming the presence of Dragon glass means Dragons were there, too. I don't know if Martin made the distinction anywhere between naturally occuring Obsidian and glass made by actual dragon fire. I would like to assume the latter, but you never know with the Bearded Bard of Procrastination. He takes great pride in our torment.

I do hope he ties in The Ice Dragon to ASOIF in more ways than just a line mentioning Ice Lizards scurrying around in The Land of Always Winter. If the Others bring the cold, and the Cold brings the Ice Dragons...could be cool.

Jon could be the Bizarro AA - Armored in Ice, mounted on an Ice Dragon, carrying a Dragon Glass sword...
