I bought both 1 and 2 today.

Bookstore I was at had a 1st edition of the second book available for $20. Grabbed it and the 1st book.

Summary I read on Goodreads seemed real interesting.

I have read them and really enjoyed it. Definitely one of my favorite SciFi series. The first book takes the style of a series of different tales while the others are more traditional but all of them are good.

Simmons prose is incredible. Reading it makes you realize just how simple/ basic most of the other stuff we read really is. But the story sometimes gets lost in it. Not as bad as Rothfuss, but close. And it's a really cool story with alot of depth to it. Push through when/ if it gets slow or tedious.

My favorite sci fi series ever. You're in for a treat. First book is in a Canterbury Tales style and gives background on each main character. Ends in a cliffhanger. Second book deals with them unraveling the mystery of the Shrike and the Time Tombs.

First two books (really their own series) are some of the best sci fi around. The second 2 book series set in the future that concludes the series is very solid as well, but a different style entirely.

This is my recommendation every time there is a Sci Fi book thread.

I view the first book as a work of literary art.

The second book and the rest of the series are great but Hyperion is Dan Simmons's masterpiece.

I just bought book 1 on amazon for Kindle. I can't wait to read it now.

ETA: Holy shite! I just finished the first chapter. If the rest of the book is as good or better, it will be amazing.

Only book I've ever read where once it ended, I literally dropped the book like it was a hot potato and said, "What the frick did I just read?!"

It’s great.

The best one is the first though.

The priest’s story. Holy shite. That’s stuck with me heavily for years.

Summer of Night is his best work imo. It's more horror. Very reminiscent of "It" but better.

So its a series of 4 books? And the series is completed? I wanna make sure before I pick these up. I'm a little gunshy from Martin and Lynch.
