Not sure where you are, S but highly recommend updating your library card and downloading Libby. If you have a Kindle, it’ll send it right to it.

For OP, shooting for 35 books this year (did 20 this last year).

I fell a little short of 20 books last year, so I'll go with 18.

Hopefully I can hit that. I know there were some stretches where I didn't read like I could've and I'm wanting to read a couple longer books again this year.

Goal: 18 Books - Completed

1. The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane - Robert E. Howard, 414 pages, 4/5
Moon of skulls may be my favorite story by Howard now.

2. The First Poems in English - Various, translated by Michael Alexander, 140 pages, 4/5
These poems (much like Beowulf) blend the old pagan England with the Christian one, and rather match the grafting in of Gentiles. Pretty good.

3. When God spoke Greek - Timothy Michael Law, 174 pages, 3/5
Very opinionated and at times reads like a Wikipedia entry mixed with a blog. Still, interesting stuff about the history of the Septuagint and the Bible.

4. Red Rabbit - Tom Clancy, 636 pages, 3/5
First Clancy book I've read in awhile. Was ok.

5. The Complete Plays - Sophocles, 440 pages, 4/5

6. Ben-Hur A Tale of the Christ - Lew Wallace, 488 pages, 5/5
A few quotes I really loved
"Could he have taken the offer and said the word, history might have been other than it is; but then it would have been history ordered by men, not God - something that never was and never will be."

"The intentions of God are always strange to us; but not more so than the means by which they are wrought out, and at last made plain to our belief."

"All the servants hastened weeping to see him; for he had the love of every living thing with which he had anytime to do;but when they beheld his face, and the smile upon it, they dried their tears, saying, "It is well. He is happier this evening than when he went out in the morning."

7. Blood and Smoke - Stephen King, 3 hrs 47 minutes, 2/5
1408 was the highlight of the stories

8. 'Salem's Lot - Stephen King, 18 hours, 3/5

9. Idylls of the King and a Selection of Poems - Alfred Tennyson, 367 pages, 4/5

10. Farnham's Freehold - Robert Heinlein, 10 hrs 25 minutes, 3/5

11. Death Troopers - Joe Schreiber, 7 hours, 3/5

12. A History of the English Speaking Peoples Volume 1: The Birth of Britain - Winston S. Churchill, 500 pages, 5/5

13. Have Space Suit - Will Travel - Robert Heinlein, 8 hours, 4/5

14. Berossos and Manetho: Native Traditions in Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt - Berossos and Manetho, 256 pages, 4/5

15. All you zombies and other stories - Robert Heinlein, 4 hours, 2/5

16. The Unfortunate Profession of Jonathan Hoag - Robert Heinlein, 4 hours, 2/5

17. Time for the Stars - Robert Heinlein, 6.5 hours, 2/5

18. Aliens: Bug Hunt - edited by Jonathan Maberry, 380 pages, 2/5

19. Rome's Italian Wars, Books 6-10 - Livy, translated by J.C. Yardley, 287 pages, 4/5

20. The Man Who Would Be King - Rudyard Kipling, 573 pages, 3/5
The title story was excellent. Rest of the stories were a mix of very good and some weaker
Among the ones I found to be good were, the strange ride of morrowbie jukes, drums of the fore and aft, on greenhow hill, at the end of the passage, the finest story in the world, the gardener, and the manner of men

21. The Greatest Gift - Philip Van Doren Stern, 55 pages, 5/5

I've missed my goal of 24 for two straight years. My biggest problem has been forcing myself to read some books that didn't really interest me and I drug my heels.

I'm going to make sure I hit it this year.

14 as of 10/25
19 as of 12/11
21 as of 12/16. I might just make it
23 as of 12/29
24th finished at 130am on the 31st, goal complete

Top 5 of this year was
1. Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage - Alfred Lansing
2. Die Trying - Lee Child
3. Legends and Lattes - Travis Baldree
4. The Thursday Murders Club - Richard Osman
5. Welcome to Hyunam-Dong Bookshop - Hwang Bo-Reum

Next year I am easing the goal to only 15 but will load up with larger books

I want to re-read LOTR as it's been a decade+, more Jack Reacher, and maybe a couple classics. For example, my 24th book of 2024 is Slaughter house five

Just finished the 4th skyward. Enjoy them! Didn’t realize there are set of novella/novellas that go along side them. Feel like I missed something going from book 3 to book 4, they explained it well enough but wish I read if that helps.

Goal was 30 last year, and I fell short (22). 4 of those 22 were really long (800+), and most of them were pretty dense nonfiction, so I dont feel too bad about missing my goal. Setting it at 24 this year.
