Austin Simmons, a four-star QB in the class of 2025, is reclassifying to the 2023 class and joining the Ole Miss football program this summer at 17 years old...

Per Palm Beach Post...
quote:

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Simmons is home schooled and taking online courses. He is a sophomore athletically but has completed his high school core classes and finished 15 college credits.

This allows him to play football at Pahokee while living with his dad in Canal Point, and play baseball in Dade County while living with his mom in Miami. Last season, he pitched for the Doctors Charter School of Miami Shores varsity, and tossed two no-hitters. This year he may return to Miami Christian where he was on the varsity as a 6th and 7th grader.

"Austin is kind of in a category by himself because of the amount of work he puts in," said Oliver Bozeman, who has coached Simmons for the last five years.

"Most kids are in school all day. Austin has already completed his school work and he's in the weight room or he's in film study or he's doing quarterback sessions when most kids are doing school work."

Neal played as a 17 y/o for a large part of the season. He should NEVER HAVE BEEN A 2025. So freaking misleading.

Good thing they reclassified him because he would be ineligible in LA after next season anyway

I'll bet 350 that this kid is older than a sophomore/rising junior should be. He was probably reclassed down at some point in the past and now that he's "panned out" it's time to cash in and move him back up.

Just checked his Perfect Game profile. He's going on 18 years old so he was definitely reclassed at some point at least once. That's assuming they didn't lie about his age on PG. That's been known to happen as well.

By taking college classes in high school. Most college classes are given an extra point per letter grade. Ex: an A is a 5.0 a B is a 4.0 etc. Maybe in his curriculum completing a grade early counts the same. Idk, it's dumb, either way kid is clearly book smart. Too bad he's an idiot reclassifying 2 years when he should be letting his body develop physically without burning college eligibility.

I get having better than a 4.0 due to AP classes and what not but better than 5.0? He must be the smartest guy to ever attend his highschool... OH wait, Mom is the principal

No way in hell any 16 year old is even remotely ready to play college football let alone in the sec. Idc how good you are.

And now he’s going under Lane’s tutelage.

This kid’s gonna end up all sorts of fricked up. He’ll have authored a manifesto by 21.
