Gonna explain this clearly for y'all... Every day workouts during strength building ans maintenance training for athletes are based on % of 1 rep max (for example in squat, a workout would consist of 4 sets of 10 reps at 40-60% of max)... That means you HAVE TO MAX so that you can plan workouts and track progress appropriately. This isn't Guice showing off, it's him being REALLY IMPRESSIVE in a necessary step in strength training.

I think the coaches know what they're doing with these guys. Tommy Moffit has been around a long time and I seriously doubt he would let the players do anything to jeopardize their health. These are 20 year old kids who are at their peak physical condition. Could just as easily get hurt stepping in a pothole or tripping over a curb. Can't live in fear! Geaux for it Tigers ??

Love DG but he had a lot of help on that squat. DG, you are THE MAN, no need to prove it in the weight room. Just do what you do on the field breaux!

Lol. No he didn't.

I've said it 50 times before but I'll say it again. Guice will end up being better than Fournette. As a hog fan I'll be glad when he graduates lol

I agree with all of you. Guice is a beast, but this is scary nonetheless. I remember him squatting 5 something a few months ago, so he really didn't have much to prove. Still some freak shite though.

Seems like a lot if comments from people who dont actually lift. Guice does not, and never will, lift competitively. So there is little risk of extensive joint damage as has been trotted out here. There is also as little risk of injury maxing on squat as there is in him doing RB drills, ESPECIALLY if he has proper form and has adequate spotters (he did). Furthermore, if he didnt have a max on squat (or clean, dead lift, bench, etc.) He would have no benchmark to set for his maintenance lifting throughout the season. So... Stop being chicken-littles if you're out of your element.

So please educate us non lifters (lol) about slow twitch and fast twitch muscles as it relates to at atheletic performance. The squat is a quad dominant movement...hint...quads are mostly slow twitch muscles.

The fact you think there are "fast twitch" vs "slow twitch" muscles demonstrates that you're out if your depth. Fast twitch and slow twitch refer to types of muscle fibers. Slow twitch fibers are for endurance, fast twitch are for power, bud degrade quickly. So, for high level athletes, they do workouts that develop both types of fibers... All of this is purely academic anyway. Because TM knows more about appropriate workouts for athletes than all of us combined.

I lift and squat pretty heavy and have lifted with moffitt and hatch so I'm not saying he should or shouldn't squat that heavy but outside of powerlifting applications or like maybe for college throwers there is really no reason you "need" to squat this heavy. I mean don't get me wrong its good to get in there and let the nuts hangout and move some heavy shite but squatting over 500 for a running back just isnt really necessary. Id be more impressed seeing him do 500x12 than 650 for one. And you acknowledge that there is atleast some risk in squatting that heavy...granted it isnt much its still there but comparing it to doing RB drills is sort of silly because the benefit of said drills far out weigh that of squatting this heavy. Risk/benefit ratio is something that should be considered. So im on the fence i guess cause i loveee seeing this shite. But I'm not on the fence with you on here trying to big dog people like you are the end all be all on strength training. And if that is the case where do you coach? cause im always willing to learn....

there really is no reason for anyone to be doing 1rm's, much less your star runningback. These are fast twitch athletes, not competitive weightlifters

This is borderline dangerous. No need for a 1 rep max for a football player. Maybe a power lifter? But not for a running back.

You know your important when u got 5 spotters. The last time i saw that many spotters was this blonde chick with spandex tights at the health club. Everybody volunteered for some reason.

A) That is a ridiculous amount of weight for his size/age and extremely impressive B) Lets not do it again. I hear knees are important for running backs.
