Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports
NFL Draft Analyst Todd McShay was on ESPN's "Get Up" this week and explained why he gave LSU quarterback Joe Burrow a 94-point grade, just one-point short of the 'elite' tier. Per 247Sports:
quote:

“If you just looked at this year’s tape, I’d agree with you, he’s in that elite tier,” McShay said. “But he went from a third, fourth-rounder a year ago to the second tier in my tier rankings and a 94 grade. It puts him ahead of Tua Tagovailoa and ahead of a lot of elite quarterbacks that have been in the NFL before. I love him just as much as you. Just going through the rankings, he was one point off.”

Go watch Chase Young in their Clemson game. No sacks, 2 total tackles. No tackles for loss. He was effectively shut out in OSU's game against their best opponent. Is it elite when you do not show up against your best opponent? Remind me, who shut Joe down???? Oh.....yeah no one.

Hell Chaisson had a better game vs Clemson than Young

Watch the game closely man Clemson was doubling/ tripling him, running options to his side, getting the ball out much faster than usual, etc etc all bc of his presence

If the greatest QB in the history of NCAA football isn’t an elite QB, who tf is?

The single greatest season in college QB history doesnt make him elite?

I think his point is quite valid. He went from mediocre to "the greatest college QB" in one season would have me somewhat skeptical too. Was he a product of the system, O coordinators, receivers? I dunno but when those analysts nitpick over everything, it is a valid question mark.

Elite in college does not always mean elite in the NFL. Ratings are based on college performance + adaptation potential to NFL

Every college QB is a product of a system, and coordinators, and receivers. Joe went from caveman offense to modern offense, and completed 77% of his passes and broke damn near every record along the way. I get that 2019 Burrow looked much different than 2018 Burrow. But his rationale means he believes to some 3xtent, that last year may have been a fluke. Which is absolutely retarded.

No need to explain why you are a complete idiot, Todd.

When knocking him for 2018, you have to consider that he came to LSU in late May, with no starting experience, under a 1st year OC that was trying to create an offense, working with receivers and RBs with almost no starting experience and a below average Oline. I'm not saying you throw away 2018 altogether, but you can't put too much weight on it either. He went into a very rough situation and, by the end of the year, he began to appear elite. Without all the limiting factors of 2018, he was able to put together the greatest season ever in 2019.

The greatest single season performance by a college QB and the best single college football team ever (the 2019 LSU) are eating the lunch of the media losers. And, that's part of the joy. Geaux Tigers.

Why are they so critical of LSU players??? It boggles me. Look what they did to Greedy Williams and are now doing to Grant Delpit. It's pitiful.

Meh. I’m as big a Tiger fan as any. But Greedy had a bad attitude the back half of his last season and even though he won the Thorpe award (more of a lifetime achievement trophy now) Delpit faced some criticism for having peaks and valleys in his game this year.

Kreg Jennings - The kid from Oklahoma should have won the Jim Thorpe award and not Grant Delpit. I'm a Grant Delpit and LSU fan, but Delpit was inconsistent throughout the whole season. He will make a fine safety in the pros once they give him better coaching, LSU did about as much with him as they could. Now it's the pros turn to finish upgrading him and rounding out his skills and talent to turn him into a really great Free Safety, he has excellent range to become one.

Well to be fair to Delpit, he was banged up most of the year this year and had no real help at the safety position until Mo developed enough after Harris went down.

So 3rd or 4th rounder the year before, so now he is a 2nd rounder because you have in your 2 tier? He’s going #1 so Todd you suck.

McShay is like a worse version of Mel Kiper Jr. At least Kiper is odd and interesting in a weird way. McShay just tries too hard to be serious and is wrong a lot.
