LSU safety Grant Delpit announced Thursday that he will be wearing the famous No. 7 when he suits up for the Tigers this spring and fall.

Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

“Grant is an outstanding football player and he represents our program in a first class fashion both on and off the field,” Orgeron said. “Grant has worked extremely hard and has continued to develop and be a leader for our football team. He’s very deserving of becoming the next LSU player to wear No. 7.”

Delpit, who was a finalist for the Nagurski Award in 2018, is coming off one of the best all-around seasons for an LSU player in school history. Last year, Delpit led the Southeastern Conference in interceptions (5) and finished No. 2 in the league in passes defended (14). He also recorded 74 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, and two other takeaways (1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery).

As I am opening this article, I'm thinking that if anyone besides Delpit got it, I'm pissed. Extremely well deserved and he will bring value back to the tradition.

Definitely should have. I thought I was the only one who surprised when he wasn't wearing it!

I was really hoping DWhite was going to come out after the 1st half suspension against Bama sporting the 7. Would have been epic.

I said it before and Ill say it again Giles who never played a down in 2017 even though he was on the team and practicing should never have gotten the #7. Need to prove you worth on the field not just in the locker room. I know that the team votes but I would think from now on coaches can guide these decisions with their leadership so the tradition continues and doesn't die out. In this case fantastic choice..

Very pleased to see the number go back to the defensive side of the ball. The number kinda saw a decline going from LF > Chark > Giles. Time for Delpit to redeem it
