Joel Klatt Hints At Major SEC-Big Ten Scheduling Agreement Coming Soon

FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt believes the SEC and Big Ten could announce a major scheduling agreement shortly after the College Football Playoff officially expands to 24 teams.

During a Wednesday appearance on KTCK-FM 96.7 in Dallas, Klatt suggested the two conferences already have plans to schedule more non-conference matchups against each other.

"There are scheduling agreements that are in place once this thing expands officially," Klatt said.

"The next thing that will happen almost immediately is we’re going to get scheduling agreements between the SEC and the Big Ten — top-end matchups, mid-tier matchups, low-end matchups — and we’re going to be expanding the valuable matchups in the non-conference, far surpassing what we have now."

The potential agreement comes as the two conferences continue discussions surrounding a 24-team College Football Playoff.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has pushed teams to play at least 10 games against power-conference opponents, while Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti has supported stronger non-conference schedules if the playoff expands.

Nothing has been officially announced, but Klatt's comments suggest fans could see significantly more SEC vs. Big Ten matchups in the coming years.

Any team lucky enough to make it to the championship game is going to be rolling out kids in wheelchairs and walkers after 9 SEC games and a Big 10 matchup or two...not to mention other non-conference games like Miami/FL, LSU/Clemson, etc etc. I know these kids are paid well but damn. There will have to be a strategy to keep your best players off the field solely to keep them from getting injured if you want them to last the whole season.

It's going to be ok, really. The NFL plays 17 games plus another 3 or 4 to get to the super bowl and they still manage to play that game at a high level. It'll be fine.

And despite some NFL teams being poorer than others, don't even try to say that's not like playing an SEC team each week.

And it’s nearly impossible to have any sort of depth now that every program has a revolving door. Disaster.

This isn't the fricking NFL!

This has corporate greed all over it. Kids get paid. Now the NCAA SEC and little 10 have to find another revenue source to line their pockets. Next the kids will sue to get a piece of that. It is a sht show.

Pettiti is playing chess while Sankey plays checkers. If this would lead to a better TV deal and lighter schedule for LSU, would support. Call me skeptical.

I don't get it...if expanding playoffs to 24 teams, how does an agreement with SEC and Big 10 to play each other during the season benefit anyone? Shouldn't they naturally meet in the playoff?

Make it to the ship and you’re 17-18 games in a season. Makes no sense

Now imagine if you'd have to only "perform" 17-18 times per year in your current job. For far less money. Anyway....

At some point, real soon, they're going to have to just start calling it what it is and stop having the players pretend to do school work in between.

Bring back the bcs. Players from the sec will be so hurt from playing each other at the end of the year the backups will have to give way to healthier crap conference teams or notre damn to win the championship every year.

I'm looking forward to going to different campuses and stadiums. I'd love to see games in the Big House or Horseshoe. Even places like Northwestern (new stadium), Indiana, or Illinois.

Another way to look at this is that it will decimate the athletic budget of these smaller schools that have to be paid large $$ to come and play here. Those 3-4 games, for many schools, represents 80-90% of their budgets.

I bet Spankey will insist the SEC forfeit before the kick off of each game, so that he can remain a Big-10 puppet.
