UPDATE: LSU has hired Blake Baker as LB coach.

LSU is seeking to add Miami Hurricanes defensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach Blake Baker to the staff, according to a report from FootballScoop.com.

Baker is from Houston, TX, and played football at Tulane. He joined Manny Diaz's staff at Miami last January but reportedly lost defensive play-calling duties recently after Diaz made several new changes to the staff.
quote:

Miami defensive coordinator Blake Baker is a top target of Ed Orgeron’s to join the Tigers staff, sources have shared. While Baker’s role is not yet clear, a co-defensive coordinator / linebackers role may be in play.

Baker was brought to Miami by Manny Diaz after Diaz returned to Coral Gables as head coach following a few weeks leading the Temple program. The Miami job opened up after Mark Richt decided to retire, and Diaz reached out to Baker, his former right hand man at Louisiana Tech who replaced Diaz as defensive coordinator, to come run the ‘Canes defense and coach the inside linebackers in 2019.

Baker served as defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech four seasons. He also worked with Diaz at Texas.

I'd like it. Sounds like a good hire. I'd also like if they would only report this stuff when the deal is done. Too many articles of "looking to hire" & "seeking to hire" and not getting it done.

They're going to report on whatever information they find out. Generally it's not reporters discovering this info. Usually it's someone's agent that gives the "inside scoop" to maximize outcomes for their client, whether it be in a role at LSU or any other school that has interest. That said, I also like the move. Geaux get 'em.

You cannot control what agents and reps leak on purpose about their clients. That is how most of this stuff gets out.

I wonder if these stories are intentionally leaked by LSU or if there is rat on the staff. Could be Baker or somebody representing them though. Maybe he's trying to leverage his situation by putting it out there that LSU is looking to hire h him.

These leaks have gotten really old. LSU needs to find out who is doing it and fire them.

While I have little faith that we’ll actually land him due to big-mouthery from those responsible for these constant headlines, it looks like a great hire.

Exactly!

Why do you feel this has any impact on hiring or not hiring a coach? (Because it has ZERO impact)

Like the possibility, but I am friggen sick of whomever at football ops or the AD office keeps leaking this shite.

Exactly think about it. It isn’t LSU doing this, it’s from his side of the fence to garner more pay from either direction he lands. It’s smart but definitely aggravating. You can either deal with it or tell them this is the offer unless you leak it. If it’s leaked then the offer will not move and could go down because it puts me in a bad position and the money I’m offering is as good as it gets. If you want more, it won’t be from us. Then call his employer and tell them you’re no longer interested and they won’t have to pay him anything either. Two can play that game.

Feel like this is more for recruiting than anything... You have a guy here that has coached in Louisiana, in Texas, and in Florida during his career. Hopefully he made good relationships with high schools in those states.
