LSU linebackers Donnie Alexander and Corey Thompson will reportedly both miss the Citrus Bowl vs. Notre Dame on Jan. 1, according to The Advocate:
quote:

Corey Thompson and Donnie Alexander are expected to miss the Jan. 1 game in Orlando, multiple sources confirmed to The Advocate, ending the careers of the senior duo.

Alexander, an Edna Karr product, underwent a second to his injured shoulder recently, and Thompson, a Texas native, has battled a multitude of injuries over his six-year career with the Tigers.
If Alexander and Thompson are unable to play in the Citrus Bowl and star pass rusher Arden Key does not suit up for the game, LSU will be without three front seven starters vs. Notre Dame.

Key has missed every single one of LSU's Bowl practices so far this offseason and there is a good chance he will not play vs the Irish on Jan. 1.

What happens when LSU as a quarterback that is concerned with his draft status? Decides to sit out the bowl game? The only silver lining to this disturbing trend is that non-playoff bowl game ticket sales will plummet forcing an 8 or 16 team format.

8 teams would be okay. 16 is just too many. There will always be one or two that should have gotten in, but stretching it to 16 means eventually you will get a National Champion with 3 losses. Is that what we want?

When you sign with an agent this is what happens.

And this is why you can never have enough quality depth at every position

I bet none of the seniors are setting out the playoff games. That’s another reason these bowl games don’t mean shite unless it’s for a championship.

Actually think it’s good they aren’t playing. Feel bad for them personally but it’s better for our young guys to get these snaps and practice.

Yeah, but if we lose using this as an excuse will be cause for an uproar on the rant

A healthy starter sitting out to protect draft status is effectively the same as quitting the team. Should be consequences for this action.

You define healthy? Or would you prefer to let the players decide if they are hurt or not. Was LF injured last year? I will side with the players on this. These guys are no different than LF, they played "nicked" all year. Look on the bright side, if that's possible, all the freshmen will be playing, bonding even more in preparation for the tough schedule next year.

This is becoming the norm. The fricking NFL is finding a way to frick up CFB with it's calculating career move mentality. I hope they do well, but I just don't care enough about the NFL (nothing to do with kneelers) to find out.

LSU should have declined this bowl game

Why? I’d rather see the young guys play anyway in a meaningless bowl. Win or lose the experience will be very meaningful.

Key has been out just about the whole season. He checked out last year after he became a projected top 10 pick. He hasn't been the same since.

I think a GM would be crazy to draft Key in the 1st round. He’s been a head case the whole year.

We will be fine. We have plenty hungry Tigers left in the tank.

Also to add personally I have no clue if the guys sitting out of the game are hurt but I do know this much Id rather people who wanna play than someone who is taking plays off.

This just means that divinity, jacob phillips, and tyler taylor will play alot in their absence. We will be fine. Aranda will have them ready to play.

As a fan this sucks. We got marginal players sitting out. Love of LSU must stop at the bench.

Why even play the game if half the starters have shut it down already! This is ridiculous.
