Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
Multiple sources are reporting that former LSU tight end Arik Gilbert is transferring to Georgia.

Gilbert, a former five-star tight end from Marietta, Georgia, signed with LSU in 2020 and played as a true freshman with the Tigers last season. He started in the first eight games, catching 35 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns but opted out of the season after the loss to Alabama and entered the transfer portal on Jan. 5.

He recently committed and de-committed from Florida.

Coach Smart will want the same thing the LSU coaches wanted from this kid, to play with heart & passion, learn to block (which was an issue), and to be a good teammate and give his all to the team. He's not going to get that from this individual, unfortunately. He'll now have to beat out another 5-star TE, D. Washington, on the Dawgs roster... who'll likely block and be a team player. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and/or if Arik Gilbertt will be back in the transfer portal, anytime soon!?!

Good...I don't care what kind of talent he has playing football. He is a head case and not worth us even talking about him.

Is he one of the LSU players that were clamoring for Bama recruits to come to LSU after their 1 win again Bama in recent history? Hahahahaha

Sucks for us that this kid has problems, because he is an A1 athlete with immense pro potential. They would have talked about him like they talked about Chase when he finally declared. I legit thought he could finish here with at least one 1000 yard season, but it ain't happening now. Since I don't know him and all I have seen from him has been negative towards LSU with no reasons behind it, I'll feel no sympathy for him if he should fail.

Why would the LSU coaches or players want him back? He quit on all of them. Guy is obviously a flake and has major character concerns. 5 star talent with 1 star heart, determination and drive.

I agree. My concern is how it looks to the rest of the team and how the other players would have reacted to Gilbert returning after he walked off from his teammates.

Can whoever runs the news portion of this page make this the last bit of news we hear about this guy as he is no longer associated with our team? Thanks. I am sure Gilbert equals clicks so I know this is wishful thinking.

These comments are the truth. The guy has a 1.0 GPA and doesn't go to Class. He wanted to play WR at LSU just like he does at UGA but he was not WR material. He has some personal issues which need to be addressed. He was a problem in the Locker Room and tried to go to UF and was turned down. Now UGA is his latest "commitment" which is his 3rd. So now you boys are Cackling about the Great Gilbert until he goes to a JUCO. LOL.

Not WR material? Are you kidding? There are plenty of concerns regarding this kid, and it’s probably best he’s gone, but once again Rob you are unable to separate ability of a player from other points worthy of discussion.

This kid is a head case. Good luck Georgia. This kid isn’t even in the pros yet and he’s a Prima donna.

He's changed his mind so many times there's a change he'll play himself before his career is done. :) Wishing the kid the best. Let him have fun back home....

This is becoming the new norm. The NCAA transfer portal has made poaching your competition's players legitimate. Recruiting apparently does not stop after Signing day or even after a season of playing. It is free agency.
