Paul Finebaum appeared on ESPN's "Week 8 Recap" and talked about the big "what if," in regards to Nick Saban leaving LSU for the Miami Dolphins job and how many National Championships he could have won in Baton Rouge if he stayed.

Finebaum said he could have won nine or 10 at LSU. Per The Spun:
quote:

“They won one with him and one without him,” Finebaum said.. "…He’s won six at Alabama. Could he have nine or 10 at LSU? Yes, he could have."
Finebaum messed up by saying LSU only won one without Saban as the Tiger have won two National Championships since he left, but either way here's the full discussion:

He never intended on staying at Miami! His destination was Alabama all along. It would have been a scandal if Alabama had been accused of tampering thus the Miami Deception.Drew Brees says it all.

I would say Saban would have won 9 national championships if he stayed at LSU.

Difference being that Saban was at LSU thinking he was an NFL coach. He's a man with a lesson learned at Bama. If he'd come back to LSU after Miami, he'd have had the NCAA or nothing mindset that he has at Alabama.

Story goes that he wanted to come back to LSU, but Skip sent him the other direction since "we had our coach" in Les Miles. We're is the vomit emoji?

At least 7 I think but that is so hard to predict. Saban loved La. His wife Loved it too. He NEVER thought he would be at that other place EVER !

Saban's NFL mistakes made him a better coach. He wins more than one at LSU but he was a different coach when he came back to college.

Meh, not a fan of this "what if." Saban going to Miami directly led to Brees coming to New Orleans and history plays out from there. That Saints Superbowl did more for New Orleans and the whole state post-Katrina than any LSU natty.

NOLA is sure thriving right now.

You’re smokin crack! The Aints could leave Louisiana tomorrow and the state would keep on truckin. If LSU football ended tomorrow, that state would burn to the ground.

God damn alot of yall don't remember that 2009 championship. frick the state of NOLA right now BlackPot, I'm talking aftermath of Katrina. That superbowl brought New Orleans and Louisiana together like nothing else I've ever seen, outside of the Gleason blocked punt.

I don't think any amount of money would have stopped him. He had the NFL itch and he had to scratch it.

And you can thank Skip Bertman for letting Mal Moore hire him away and sticking with Les Miles and not buying out his contract. Nick would have come here and not gone to Bama but Skip didn't really want him back...Truth be told. Now they'll tell you otherwise, but nope, Skip wanted to have the most nattys.

funny thing, is that once Nick won the title, it was bigger and more impactful that all of Skips titles combined.

Is that true? When Nick left Miami did he contact us about coming back?

Well it’s kinda hard to hire a man then fire him because the other guy is ready to come back. But if they would have put that in the contract it would have been different. I hate Saban left especially ending up at that place in al. I did love Miles even though he was “out there” he is kinda like Leach the quirkiness anyway, The world would suck if we were all the same, anyway it is what it is and WE WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS @ LSU…GEAUX TIGERS

We’re LSU and we don’t need Saban. We have Coach Kelly and he will be in the SEC when Saban is only a bad memory.
