LSU freshman tight end Arik Gilbert announced on Twitter Saturday morning that he has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Gilbert, a former 5-star recruit from Marrieta, Ga., opted out of the season the week after LSU's loss to Alabama on Dec. 5. He started in the first eight games for LSU, catching 35 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns.

Update: Gilbert deleted his tweet about the transfer portal. Here's what tweet said before he deleted it:
quote:

"After careful consideration and collaboration with my family I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal. I’d like to thank god for bestowing his blessings upon me."

This whole “transfer portal” and “opting out” is just another side effect of this weak arse culture we live in today. Ones word and commitment mean nothing anymore and what’s worse it’s just become the norm and accepted. I’m older than dirt and I never thought I’d see our culture shift so drastically in my lifetime. I’m genuinely sad for my children and grandchildren

I understand that and don't necessarily like it either, but times change. Who is to say how it was before was right and this is wrong?

Kole Taylor is 6’7” 2 inches taller than Gilbert. Man that’s a big target. Didn’t realize he was that tall. 240lbs. Nice.

This generation of young men sure know how to quit. When things dont go their way they quit. Good riddance, we dont need quitters like him. Wont miss him.

Previous generation did a shitty job of raising them.

Nolaughingmatter, you are correct about the previous generation (Mom w/o Dad) raising a bunch of entitled kids.

You'd be surprised the effect the internet has had on humans.

He never truly wanted to be at LSU. He just wanted to be on a championship team and be handed the crown. The moment things got remotely tough from his expectation, he bailed. Showed the true color of a kid.

Usually I don’t comment on what a kid decides, but this is such a bitch arse move.

Not impressed by this kid at all. He flat out quit on this team and showed his true colors. Addition by subtraction. Entitlement is an affliction.

And its sad. A lot of these morons don't stop and realize they'd be nothing without sports.

Funny he leaves and two hungry no name TEs blow up the next few games. I want 2019 tigers. I don’t want Bama kids. I don’t want Clemson kids. I want Tigers. If it takes every 5 years to win a ship with Tigers so be it.

He could never come back after the way he embarrassed himself. "I miss my mommy!" Grow the frick-up.
