LSU freshman tight end Arik Gilbert announced on Twitter Saturday morning that he has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Gilbert, a former 5-star recruit from Marrieta, Ga., opted out of the season the week after LSU's loss to Alabama on Dec. 5. He started in the first eight games for LSU, catching 35 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns.

Update: Gilbert deleted his tweet about the transfer portal. Here's what tweet said before he deleted it:
quote:

"After careful consideration and collaboration with my family I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal. I’d like to thank god for bestowing his blessings upon me."

If he doesn’t want to be at LSU, he shouldn’t be here....and that is what he is doing. Good luck to him and thanks for freeing up a spot on the roster.

We need no "head cases" or prima donnas...we need players that want to be tigers, are loyal and proud of LSU....like ZVR and so many others.

Funny he leaves and two hungry no name TEs blow up the next few games. I want 2019 tigers. I don’t want Bama kids. I don’t want Clemson kids. I want Tigers. If it takes every 5 years to win a ship with Tigers so be it.
