Las Vegas, NV – Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for 304 yards and two touchdown passes, but a late score from Southern Cal lifted the Trojans past LSU on Sunday night in Las Vegas, 27-20.

Nussmeier found his rhythm quickly with two consecutive 15-yard receptions to junior receiver Kyren Lacy, moving the ball passed midfield in the opening minute of play.

On 4th-and-2 from the LSU 39, Nussmeier found Lacy again for a three yard pickup to move the chains. Nussmeier then found junior tight end Mason Taylor for a 13-yard gain to move the ball to the Trojan 20.

Put Harold Perkins on the edge with a sign on his chest that says “Try and Stop Me!” and let him disrupt college football for the opponents. He is the Micah Parson of college football. Seems pretty simple.

We're the biggest laughing stock in college football by a mile. Thanks for mother fricking nothing Kelly.

Sucks to lose the same game over and over again, but some thoughts….

1. Defense played their asses off all game, the second half they were on the field for 20 of the 30 minutes in the second half. They looked gassed at the end and it hurt us bad. But props to them for keeping up in the game. Secondary had its blunders but we had players playing out of position and young guys everywhere, they hung in well and showed some promise I thought. Loved the pressure brought by coaching too, definitely gave USC some fits and it payed off multiple times. Also love that big boys up front are finally getting those bear paws up and gettin some deflections at the LOS.

2. Injuries really hurt us, not having Alexander healthy still means we put fricking sage Ryan at cb2 instead of safety over Allen. I think he could actually perform well at safety, which he still has yet to do once his entire time at LSU. Also, Chris Hilton being ruled out right before the game may have taken a toll on our offensive aggressiveness and forcing the big usage of our short game in passing, Hilton is our #1 deep ball guy this year…

3. Regardless of injuries tho, offensive playcalling is arse. They’re playing like we’re up 30 unless we’re losing. The two drives we scored touchdowns on were answers to USCs, and we carved them up wayyy too easily to not do it the rest of the game. Just doesn’t make sense to play scared when you’re up 4 with the ball. With Hilton out, we have to have someone step up and be our deep ball guy, otherwise USC is just gonna keep stacking the box like they did second half and we can’t run for shite. Oline also got shite on most of the night in the run game, they shed out blocks like crazy. PassO looked solid tho. Thought Nuss had a decent game, but he definetly rushed a couple of his reads which led to some missed opportunities.

4. Obviously penalties killed us. One of the biggest ones that goes untalked about is 35 Savion jones took his helmet off before getting on the sideline. After we force USC to TOD on the 45, but instead we get back to back penalties and start on the 15. Had multiple PIs but I was not all that pissed at those honestly, loved seeing young guys trying to make plays down the field, just didn’t go our way.

5. With all that said tho, I agree I think we’re ok. We have started this way with BK before, and our two biggest games are at home. Offense last year scored one touchdown in the second half against FSU, then became one of the greatest offenses ever. As long as defense stays where is and continues to improve, Im not worried about the offense until further down the road. Gotta get some guys some more confidence next week, can’t sleep on South Carolina week 3 in their house.

Nah these games are great, win or lose. And here’s why: you find out what you’re made of before loses become problematic. Kelly and company can get started fixing the problems now as opposed to trying to fix things in the middle of conference play. Beating some small school by 50 points like Alabama did just hides the problem a little longer.

Also we have a 12 team playoff…week 1 is inconsequential when determining the grand scheme of things. LSU will be fine. The offense has too much fire power and will be put back on track…this isn’t the same situation as a Matt House defense where the coach and players weren’t good enough.

Who the heck is scheduling these openers? While we play FSU, FSU, USC, Clemson, Clemson, Alabama schedules Western Kentucky 5 years in a row. comon man

We need to drop these openers against good opponents. No reason anymore. CBK is 6-2 in SEC play in his first 2 seasons. We should have had 10-2 seasons , the last 2 years. Get away from this big non-cons.

Louisiana high school players have a history of bone headed penalties. Who can forget when Rahim Alem punted a ball into the stands during the 2008 season? I mean, it's very Florida Gator ghetto like the stupid arse CB that threw the LSU players shoe, resulting in a penalty that cost them the game, momentum?

Louisiana High School players delivered 4 Championships for LSU. They help create the LSU brand. Pay them some respect for their sacrifice and dedication, especially when they are deceased, like Rahim Alem. LINK

I expected Perkins to come to the rescue a few times there. He made a few plays but where was he the rest of the time? He wudn't in the middle, he wudn't in their backfield...he was caught up in the wash. They had the better OL! Our OL talk started to become rat poison for me these last few days. Now I know why.

I expected us to be the old Washington Redskins with John Riggins running the ball. Nope.

First, LSU looks great. No doubt they have everything necessary to not just make the playoffs but also win it all.

I think both offense and defense signal calling did not put LSU players in a position to win big. The quick pass was working well for us but we kept trying g to mix it up. Admittedly you don't want to become predictable, but USC just did not seem to be able to defend pass game. We should have been setting everything up with the quick pass. Apparently our Oline is better at pass protection than running the ball.

Another year, another loss to start. Guess we need to play some tune up games like a lot of other teams.

Dumb, dumb, dumb…no excuse for showing out and getting these types of penalties. Was I embarassed? Yes and so was Coach Kelly. Heads should fall after losing a game we should easily have won. USC was lucky playing LSU in the first game of the season. I do not believe we fans will see anything like this again this year.
Do not give up on these tigers.

They were the more physical team during crunch time. They were also the more disciplined team.

I was promised the OL would be "all world", and they got pushed back even with a 3 man rush.

No, they did not. What game did you watch? They gave up zero sacks and there was only 1 hurry. They lost due a lack of discipline and offensive play calling.

Mediocre LSU,,, CBK can't win the big one,, Notre Dame fans were warning us... He can't win the big games. THATS TRUE, we will be a 8-4, 9-3 team till his contract runs out. Terrible game last night. Undisciplined, play calling, Nuss is no bus either. Long year ahead. I say 8-4 or even 7-5 and Birmingham Bowl.

Two players two unsportsmanlike penalties. Loss the game. I will not name the players you know who they are. They would be in jock washing duty and benched next game. If they quit. Bye bye

Here we geaux again. I understand the 'game plan' but, when the air-raid is on fire, use it to set up the run. LSU had the chance to put this game into the comfortable margin late and decided to 'try' and run the ball. This is on the coahing staff!
