Say what you want about farrell but opting out of a meaningless bowl doesnt bother me. The kid stayed when a lot of other guys quit on the team during the season. He is a d-lineman and is getting ready to play in the senior bowl where there will be tons of NFL scouts. Had he not made the senior bowl then maybe more of an issue but i understand this decision compared to the Ricks of the world and a few of the other former tigers.

Opting out and finally getting in on the 5th round would still be a dream come true. Contracts are negotiated and big money awaits those with patience. Play 8 years and never have to work again. Neil made the right decision.

"Bowl game is meaningless", so is every other game at LSU and most P5's the minute you get two losses. Why not quit then instead of now?

@CDawson Because playing a full season improves your chances of going to the NFL

Let him go. I want to see the kids play who are hungry to start next season.

We are getting to the point where evey bowl outside of the playoff is meaningless. Players are opting out all over the country. Why even have those bowl games?

It’s a unique situation…LSU is a among a few schools that if you can play here you have a great chance to become a true NFL prospect so we see these decisions for career more often then other schools. Most programs done have a single future Nfler on the roster and they know it and play for the love of the game. Different situations when you talk central Michigan, Nevada, Illinois vs LSU, Bama, Florida etc. business decisions unfortunately have to be made. Selfishly I want to see them play… but to each is his own.

It’s certainly his prerogative and this bowl game is arguably meaningless, but the bigger issue with this kind of thing is leaving your teammates in a lurch and what that ultimately says about one’s character. But there certainly doesn’t seem to be a premium put on character in the NFL…

The way this team has played this year, I don't think anyone should be opting out of the bowl game.

What better way to prepare than playing against other talent?

Wish he would have stayed to play in the game, but it's actually his decision.

I won't say a bad word about him. He played this year as a graduate, has bad knees and stuck it out when other who shall not be named we "injured". We will be fine against KSU. Gives young guys who will be there next year a chance to get snaps in against a quality team.

When Miles started selling LSU as NFLU and the place to prepare you for the NFL by your third year, it empowered and fostered this culture.

time for nfl eligible players to get a bowl game bonu$ for playing. Like the Senior Bowl.

That's a great idea! Should be seniors in a bowl game get a cash payout- wouldn't take a significant chunk of bowl revenue to set enough aside for this

I wish LSU would go the route of A&M and forgo bowl game. Their issues are with numbers and Covid. Actually all bowls need to shut it down with NIL, transfers and opt-outs so prevalent. It is no longer the same because universities have become Minor Leagues for the Pros.
