LSU sophomore cornerback Saivion Smith announced Wednesday night via Twitter that he is transferring out of the program.

Smith, a former five-star prospect from IMG Academy was an early enrollee in LSU's 2016 recruiting class.

Smith was expected to be the backup behind starting junior cornerback Kevin Toliver this upcoming season. Expect redshirt freshman Andraez "Greedy" Williams and sophomore Kristian Fulton to move up the depth chart with the departure of Smith.

It is unknown at this time where Smith will transfer to but an LSU spokesperson has confirmed that he is leaving the program, according to Ross Dellenger.

Fresh legs at the combine = $ Millions.... aka Ron Brooks.

Good example Jayboy. Here's another: Tredavious White started 4 years and just got drafted in the 1st. rd. I really don't understand why people are so upset with this. I seriously doubt Aranda would let this kid walk if he was going to be a major player. I will trust Aranda's instincts over anyone's comments, including my on. We might even get an extra scholarship next season. So not a big deal.

I totally agree with your points I was just saying there's no guarantee. Obviously, Tre White was the best cb on the team the last 4 years so his 1st round pick was warranted.

LSU is creating NFL talent of high quality. Saivion Smith may ultimately reevaluate his career decision. Offense is LSU's weakness not D.

Ron Brooks STARTED "3" games at LSU, 4th rd pick, now in 6th NFL season. Sav probably should've stayed @DBU

Well, good luck, SS....He has to do what he feels is right- but there's proof out there that a kid doesn't have to be a 3/4 year starting DB at LSU to make it to the next level.....

Tough loss, but 2018 recruiting cycle types - Surtain, Joseph, and others - have to take notice about our depth chart.... C'mon down!

This is not a bad thing. If a 5 star recruit can't crack the starting lineup, then we are stacked at cb! Tolliver should be an All-American this year and Williams and Fulton should get plenty of PT. Obviously, Savion talked to Coaches O, Raymond and Aranda, and decided he should head elsewhere. Not an issue. He can work on his studies this year and be fully ready to compete next year. He had nothing to say but positives about LSU. I think he will be successful moving forward and LSU will be just fine as well. Best of luck Savion!

Nothing is ever guaranteed, anywhere, anytime. If he was getting passed on the depth chart (which appears to be the case), he needs to work harder. If it's something else well that's a family decision. Historically these moves don't translate into stardom at any other program or level. Best of luck to you.

really stupid decision. he was going to see a lot of playing time as the 3rd corner against pass happy spread teams at the very least.

It APPEARS that way without the full story available to us fans. Randall "Blue" Gay, Danny McCray, Ron Brooks and a few others have all proven the fact that you don't need to be a starter to make NFL $$ as a backup at LSU.

The BIGOTS never fail to show their face when a player chooses to do what he feels is best for him. Good Luck Saivion!

Unfortunately this site has quite a few bigots on it. As a white man who looks at the individual not their color I'm confused with this unnecessary bigotry.
