LSU CB Greedy Williams Declares For The NFL Draft, Will Sit Out Bowl Game

LSU star cornerback Greedy Williams announced Sunday on Twitter that he will enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

In the Tweet, Williams did not specify whether or not he will skip the Fiesta Bowl but an LSU official confirmed to The Advocate that he will not play in the game.

Several media organizations predict Williams will be a Top 10 pick in the NFL Draft, including CBS Sports, which predicts Williams will be selected No. 3 overall.

Williams is a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the top defensive back in the nation and is expected to be a top 10 draft pick.

At the time of Williams' announcement, head coach Ed Orgeron was speaking on the Fiesta Bowl Teleconference and said that he has not spoken with any players about skipping the postseason game but will sort that all out soon.

Most guys with that skill set are under 6' tall. When you have that skill set and tremendous length like Greedy it makes you a total monster in coverage.

This just makes him look like a bad teammate, and if more and more kids do this, college football as a whole will suffer greatly. Aren't there insurance policies for kids with such a high draft grade just for shite like this?

And Derrius was playing injured injured. And instead of healing up and sitting out of the bowl game, what happening to Derrius in preseason this year? You have no clue what is going on in these kids life. The only thing that stands between them and their life changing entirely is showing up to the draft healthy. That's it.

Yeah I wouldn’t use Derrius as an example as to why you should play in a bowl game, given it didn’t look like he ever fully recovered, and everyone saw what happened in the preseason...

SEC needs a rule that keeps these guys from becoming sideline celebrities. They choose not to play? Fine. But they should LEAVE the program when they opt out. They're off the team by their own choice. Screw the VIP treatment that a lot have been getting at bowl game.

I really do not think you mean that or thought this out. Those sideline celebrities are legends on the field and off, help with recruiting, branding, community disaster relief, charity. They donate to the program, time and money. PP7, TM7, and OBJ have given and given and keep giving. LSU Family.

Unfortunately this is what big time sports have become. As stated on a couple of comments, he should have just quit after the Bama game if he wasn't going to finish the year. He was already a lock top 10 pick by then anyway. If you don't have anything to play for then mail it in earlier. I think it is a big black eye for sports when this happens. I do not like this on a lot of levels... I understand it, but don't like it. I thought to myself, "Devin White is the ultimate Tiger, if he sits out then I really can't blame either of them and that is simply where this sport/program is headed." But DW is going to play and it makes me not like Greedy's decision that much more. DW has just as much to lose by playing in this game. Good on you DW, best of luck Greedy.
