During a recent interview on The Lefkoe Show, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow talked about the offers he was getting from schools when he hit the transfer market back in 2018.

One of those offers came from Alabama to be their third-string quarterback, according to Burrow.

As you can imagine, Burrow wanted no part in that...

I just wish you could come back next year for the sequel, Joe.

He was transferring for an opportunity to play. Why would anyone waste time offering him as a third string?

Simple, buddy. Same ol bammer strategy. They knew we were interested in Joe as the starter and they were just taking a shot at keeping him away from us.

But yet here you are, crying like little school girls! Y'all was calling for Saban's job after LSU's win. Forgetting the fact that Saban had more championships than home losses in his tenure with Bama. And most of the talent that resides in Bama was from Louisiana! Get over yourselves! The only thing that's actually from Alabama is the University name and location. Everything else is either not from Alabama at all or not relevant!

That was just to keep Joe from going to LSU. He doesn't just recruit to strengthen Alabama. He also recruits Louisiana prospects to weaken LSU. He is definitely aware of his greatest potential threat.

I was just thinking the same exact thing. Saban was doing some defensive recruiting. Trying to stockpile unneeded talent just to keep it away from their rivals.

Absolutely agree! Saban has done that since he got to Bama! He does that with staff too! Remember when word got out that LSU was interested in Sarkisian for the OC under Miles? Saban signed him as a consultant just to keep him away from LSU. That actually worked out well for LSU. It also cost Bama a title. Sarkisian was the OC when Clemson blew out Bama in the title game. Then he left after that and took the OC in Atlanta (Which also helped the Saints).

Nick Saban sounds like Vince McMahon and WWE in terms of stockpiling talent just so their rivals wouldn't get them.

What did you expect from Bama in 2018? Quite honestly, he would've been Bama's 3rd string QB based on how he played in 2018.
Reply43 months
user avatar
But why would Bama think he would want to go there to be 3rd string when he was transferring from Ohio State for being 2nd string and not playing? Pretty dumb thought from Bama's coaches.

It’s okay to just admit every team (except LSU) completely missed the mark evaluating Burrow. Your comparison doesn’t work either as Tua and Hurts are not remotely comparable to this season’s Joe...sorry.

Sigh, some of you and reading comprehension. Bama evaluated him from what they saw at the time (in 2018). @10MTNTiger, your point is moot on how he played in 2019, no one could see the future.
