ESPN's SEC Backup RB Rankings
by TD Staff ReporterSeptember 25, 2015

Erich Schlegel-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN writer Greg Ostendorf pegged LSU at No. 5 in his backup running back rankings in the SEC article. Ahead of LSU was Georgia at No. 1 followed by Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn.
Here is what he had to say about LSU's backup running back situation:
1. Georgia
2. Tennessee
3. Alabama
4. Auburn
5. LSU
6. Kentucky
7. South Carolina
8. Florida
9. Ole Miss
10. Arkansas
11. Missouri
12. Mississippi State
13. Texas A&M
14. Vanderbilt
Here is what he had to say about LSU's backup running back situation:

5. LSU: It’s hard to quantify the backups at LSU when Fournette has half of the team’s carries through the first two games. But Darrel Williams is another solid, bruising back that opposing teams don’t want to see late in games, and freshman Derrius Guice ran six times for 55 yards (9.2 per carry) in Saturday’s win over Auburn. Throw in fellow freshman Nick Brossette and the Tigers have a deep and talented backfield.

2. Tennessee
3. Alabama
4. Auburn
5. LSU
6. Kentucky
7. South Carolina
8. Florida
9. Ole Miss

12. Mississippi State
13. Texas A&M
14. Vanderbilt

Have they not seen Guice dragging people like sleds on the few runs he's had. He's a monster and not a big drop off at all from Fournette. Williams is a bruiser and adding Brossette is just icing on the cake. Call me a homer, but I just don't see another backfield as sweet as that!

Does Alabama get the benefit of the doubt in everything?
I think people just assume we don't have good backups because Fournette gets so many carries. Williams would be a starter at most any other sec team outside of UGA and Tenn. Guice is the same way.
I was just coming to post this. I do not have an issue with being behind some of the others, but it absolutely floors me that Alabama ALWAYS gets the benefit of the doubt. When other teams have freshmen, it is a knock that we have not seen them play. It never fails though that when it comes to those a-holes, their freshmen get talked up, it is just like the stupid star ratings.
You guys wonder why the rest of the SEC hates Alabama so much and this is why, they can seem to do no wrong in the eyes of the media (and the stupid arse officials).

Fournette > Chubb? Not so fast, my friend. He may be in a year but Chubb is a better back. Fournette had 1 good game but how bout see if he can do a whole season? Chubb can as he's shown.

Damn, ESPN and their rankings are really getting old. And this one just seems plain stupid.

I think Sony michel and derius Guice are very similar in ability and style. That's a wash, Fournette better than Chubb and then we have Williams and nick. We have the best backfield in the country.

UGA is #1, that's not really arguable at this point. I think we make the best case for #2, but we have more unproven guys than some others. Obviously, we all believe Guice is the truth and will open eyes, but he hasn't had the chance quite yet. Williams is a great backup bruiser and complement to Fournette, but he's not 'elite' and hasn't ever carried the load.

Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn ahead of LSU on reserve running backs. LSU has won 2 SEC West games which is more than anyone else ahead of them. The defenses they have played have played to stop the run even when the backups are in the game and they have run very well. Guice and Williams will show them going forward.
