Ed Orgeron was asked Monday if he would take look at the starting quarterback position during the bye week after Garrett Nussmeier came in for Max Johnson during the 4th quarter of last week's 31-17 loss to Ole Miss.

Here's what he said:
quote:

"Max (Johnson) is still our starting quarterback," Orgeron said. "He was a little beat up, he got hit. You know he made a tremendous play to Trey Palmer. He took a big hit and was getting some hits in there. I just wanted to give him a break and get Garrett (Nussmeier) some time."

"I told Garrett I would give him some time. But Max is still our starting quarterback but if there is a chance for us to give Garrett some time in there, some quality reps, then we will."
Nussmeier came into the Ole Miss game with the Tigers trailing 31-10 and led LSU on a 14 play, 51-yard drive that resulted in a field goal. The true freshman followed that up with a 6-play, 80-yard drive that resulted in his first career touchdown pass to Malik Nabers.

The only correct answer was 'Max is still the starter but Nuss will get a chance earlier in the game if the offense stalls'. - Farmer Fran

Clearly, Coach O is not the best at evaluating. I offer up his choices of assistant coaches from present going back to Matt Canada as proof. And also, he stated early on prior to the UCLA game that our O-Line was gonna be the strength of our team and we all know how that's been. Love some Coach O and wish him well.

I’m not sure Special Ed knows the meaning of the word “evaluate.”

Johnson and Nuss will both be on the bench when Howard gets there

Wrong. Nuss will start, Walker #2 and Max leaves. Howard will take time to settle in after his lef injury, regardless of how clean the break was.

Heard that Johnson has been hurt for a couple games now. He has a sleeve on his throwing shoulder too. They'd rather him play through a messed up throwing arm than get Nuss in the game. Who cares if it's Bama? We've gotta stop treating these guys like kids. Tua had to go in for Hurts in the national championship game with got damn backup reps.

People post about not burning nuss’s redshirt. I got a feeling we’ll be lucky to have him 3 years anyway.

Why even ask questions

Having Nuss’s first start on the road at Bama might be a bit much. But he needs more time on the field for sure. That TD pass to Nabers is a throw Max just cannot make.

Just let him rip. Something tells me Nuss' mentality is not fazed by bad play or interceptions. He won't be rattled or sitting back there camping with the ball like Max.

Orgeron is not going to do anything to help LSU football at this point

Sorry but I def dont think CEO is looking to intentionally hurt LSU. I know he’s done a lot of shite that has hurt the Program but thats more ignorance than spite. At least thats what I believe anyway.

Take a chill pill and try to be happy.

With how Nuss played against Ole Miss, Nuss needs to see more time on the field, but at this point you don't want to waste the redshirt on this season

Good to great QBs almost never stay four years anyway, so if Max has issues in other games, put Nuss in and try to get the W. Getting good experience and building chemistry with other players on the field is almost never a waste.
