LSU inside linebacker Devin White met with the media on Monday and had some strong comments about how players on the team need to step up in order for the Tigers to get better.

White said he takes responsibility for the inside linebacker group and challenges those guys to watch extra film so that they are more comfortable on Saturday's. He also added that some players don't understand what it means to be an LSU Tiger.

But he is from Springhill in the very northern part if the state. How can he know what it is like to be a LSU Tiger, according most of you NOLA and I-10 fans???

I'm an I10 guy but have no idea what you're talking about. 90% of this fanbase and website know that LSU must recruit the northern part of the state to be successful. Saban made it a priority and if O isn't he's dumber than I imagined. Baton Rouge, New Orleans area, and Acadiana area has good players in numbers but IMO the northern part of the state just has better coaching overall. Those are your hard nosed football players who know the game of football and the hard work it takes to be good. I don't think our coaches put enough emphasis on football awareness, football smarts and classroom smarts enough. You have to mold your team around those type of guys. Good character guys, and then add very athletic guys to the team with those type of players. They are the ones that will show the way and make the extremly athletic guys how to play smart football. We aren't playing smart football and haven't been for a while now. They have guys similar to Honey Badger all over the place, they may not have as much athleticism as him but you still need those type of players without the character issues of course. Those type of players are out there, and LSU needs to build its team with those type of players first, catch the attention of the top players with those guys. They will see that at least LSU is playing smart football, and have a good foundation to build on. Then you start going after the extremly athletic/smart and good character athletes from across the country once you see that you have a good foundation. LSU isn't able to get those guys right now. So we must go after what we can get. Be smart about who you recruit. Get the guy who is 6' 180 and runs a 4.5 but is smart and makes plays instead of the guy who is 6'3 190 and runs a 4.4 but is raw and has character issues or isn't quite mature yet. We need the mature guys who are still very good players but may not be 6'3. Go get the DE who is 6'2 275 but is a leader and makes plays, never takes a play off, and knows where the ball is all the time. Make sure they also have 3.0 and above GPAs. That shows maturity, leadership, and that they were raised to be self sufficient. You won't have to worry about that kid not studying film because he knows the power of knowledge. Go get em O.

I knew I liked this dude for a reason... But this is exactly what I was afraid of... Our young guys just don't know what it is about to be an LSU Tiger! I'm so glad to hear White say this. I'm so glad it was White who said it. The problem with the turnover into the NFL is they do not have many guys who stick around to instill that work ethic, attitude, and leadership that this team so desperately desires right now. This is as young of a team as I can remember. The guys that with all the clout, moxie, and leadership are in the NFL. We are relying on Arden Key (who looks like he gives 0 fricks) and a bunch of guys who have never really had to be an "LSU Tiger" to teach the younger guys how to do something they really have no experience of actually doing themselves. (I will admit, I did not give Leslie enough credit for keep the team together year in and year out even with all of the turnaround.) I guess, until recently, I thought that talent could over come bad coaching on the field of competition... I stand corrected on that topic.

Devin has been special since day 1. I remember those massive hits he put on special teams and how easily and often he got to the returner. And just new he was gonna be the guy. He really reminds me of minter. Just always in place and doing his job. Except Devin hits harder and is several steps faster.

I like this young man a lot!!! He reminds me of myself. But it's time to step up White. Take control of that defense. Make sure these guys do their jobs my man. We have full confidence in you Devin. Do more man, go watch film with those young guys. Y'all have talent bro, y'all just need to play with more confidence and that comes with being comfortable out there. You're on the right track but this team needs you to be more at this time. The DL is coming back, go talk to Lawrence about taking control of his area of the defense. Then y'all all go talk with the DBs and make sure everyone knows exactly what Florida wants to do this week on offense. Stay in yalls lanes and play assignment football. What I'm seeing is too much over play, when they go one way, stay in your spot and let that side of the defense control their responsibilities, you control yours. Y'all have to eat up those blocks, don't just meet the blocker, blow his arse up in the backfield to mess up their lanes. Canada needs to fix that offense. More short routes in the flats, more screens, RB and WR screens. More draw plays from a spread formation. Most of all Canada needs to break his tendencies. If you run from a formation then pass from it, if you pass from 3 wide then run from it, leaving a TE to block. That's the problem I see with this offense. Canada go to Ensminger on how to break tendencies because he was a master at it last year.

If these coaches do that and our players can mature and get healthy we could have a good ending to this season and save face. It's not looking good at the moment. But White is on the right track. All the things he said made perfect since, but our leaders need to demand and make sure the youngsters do thier homework. Baby sit their asses until they see results and want to do those things on thier own. Once they get the sweet taste of victory in an away game against a team like Florida it should change them for the better. Gotta keep an eye on those guys. Food girls and party's will come to you if you take care of business.
