On Tuesday afternoon, the SEC announced that Mississippi State center Dillon Day would be suspended for the Texas A&M game for stomping on two different LSU players in last Saturday's game.

When asked about the suspension, head coach Dan Mullen disagreed with the decision. Per The Dispatch:
quote:

Asked his opinion of Day's conduct, Mullen said "I didn't see anything wrong with it."

And when the subject changed to Day's eventual suspension, Mullen added, "We completely disagree with the ruling that was given to us by the league, but we are going to follow the commissioner's decision."

Its a sad say when people you thought were honorable show themselves to be not who you thought. Once you lose respect, it is usually gone forever. Mullen just lost a bit of his reputation forever.

I always kinda liked Mullens and MissSt...I have several friends who are State grads and I believe there has to be an explanation why Mullens reacted the way he did....I expected something like, "Well, the players were playing with extreme emotion, we don't tolerate this kind of behavior on the field and our coaching staff is addressing this issue, yadda, yadda, yadda.....But he didn't...He said, "I didn't SEE anything wrong with it"....Coach Mullens needs to hug Dillion Day and thank him for helping him realize he has reached a stage in his life where he needs corrective lenses...(think how much more productive he will be as a head coach with contacts/glasses).....Now, come on coach, all kiddin aside, you aint a bad guy, don't dig yourself a hole!!

I am a MS State alum and feel this crap is pathetic. Just own up to it. I talked to a bunch of friends from Starkville and they are pissed at Miles. I told them that it was warranted and should have been more since there was a prior.

Makes sense that a TPOS coach is defending his TPOS player

I really dont wish injury upon anyone but I hope the next time he "stomps" on someone he tears an ACL. Hey Mullen I bet if the tables were turned and a LSU player did that to one of your players would would be complaining to the SEC office to have the LSU player suspended. So give me a break and get your bias out of here.

Ok Coach Mullen-I'm a Bulldog fan and alum. You are blind if you didn't see the way he landed on the guy. It was definitely an emphatic stomp. It could have been questioned if he just landed on the guy but one can see how he "stomped". I expect more out of our coach!!!

With Mullen and the MSU Ad supporting Day's behavior this behavior will soon be repeated. I hope next time some innocent player isn't seriously injured or worse.

The reaction of the Miss. St. head coach is horrid and unworthy of the university he represents! There will come a day when State plays LSU again ...

Karma is on it's way...Things like this have ways of taking care of themselves. I just can't fathom how everyone outside of the MSU athletics department and fanbase can see it, and these yahoos keep trying to pretend it didn't happen.

OP-ED: Mullen's full-throated support and that of the school's AD, Scott Stricklin, of Dillon Day's intentionally injuring two players reflects worst of all on Mullen, the AD, and their football program. Even with 100's of media outlets, including ESPN, and SEC NOW airing the videos, instead of doing the right thing, severely condemning the actions, they dug in and publicly announced how hard they fought Day's suspension:

___________________________________________________

"And yet, even if Mullen's response seems less than tasteful, do realize it's not just one man's opinion. Mullen evidently has the full support of his boss, AD Scott Stricklin, on this one:.....@sbcmortgageman we spent all day Monday and Tuesday making our plea to no avail. It’s done."
____________________________________________________

The SEC suspended Day under Article 4.4.2 (d) which states that a student-athlete may be suspended if it is determined that the student-athlete has committed a flagrant or unsportsmanlike act.

____________________________________________________

SEC commissioner Mike Slive announced the punishment Tuesday, citing Day's history of dangerous behavior. "This action is the result of multiple flagrant and unsportsmanlike acts during the game, as well as previous disciplinary action for similar behavior,"

Their upcoming game with A&M just got a lot more difficult. Which could be the only justice served here: if they can't "stomp" A&M it will hurt State financially. When simple off field politically incorrect behavior can end a player's career, a program tolerating on field "multiple flagrant and unsportsmanlike acts" hurts the sport.
