Former Cincinnati Bengals Carson Palmer was on The Dan Patrick Show Monday and said that he wasn't that confident that the Bengals organization will build around Joe Burrow and shore up the offensive line to protect him.

When you're a tightwad owner and you see your very cheap team get to the SuperBowl without you spending a ton, you are not then inclined to spend a ton. You are inclined to think your nickel-and-diming ways can succeed so you look to get bargain bin additions. I hope that the Brown family will finally open the checkbook and listen to their smart football people (they have a fantastic scouting team in Cincy) and pay to get the right protection around Burrow. It will pay itself back in SB wins and financial enthusiasm around the region if they do it.

Cap hit for the Bengals in this past season? $154,191,000. Some other teams: Cowboys - $231,235,067; Chiefs - $206,967,632; Rams - $217,252,597; Titans - $219,082,373; Jets - $166,905,310; Jags - $159,872,699; Texans - $156,933,816; Saints - $276,172,670 (proving that money doesn't necessarily buy you a championship or success). But, yes, the ownership of the Bengals are going to frick up Joe's career, use the franchise tag on him over and over and deprive him of a football team built for greatness. They have $55,813,062 in 2022 CAP space. They need to use that and go get some fricking kick-arse offensive lineman that can protect Burrow.

I'm honestly curious as to what sorts of decision-making go into this kind of mismanagement. I mean, really, how can you watch your star QB get sacked 6+ times a game and not make upgrading the O-line a key priority. What the hell else would they be focused on?

i was surprised he made it through the year and the playoffs. I can recall twice during the playoffs I thought his knee was blown up again. The bengals kinda remind me of the old 'aints' before they hired a decent GM. The owners did not see the value of investing in players.

If he doesn't invest, I would leave as soon as my contract is up. It's crazy not to protect your franchise QB. The Seahawks did the same crap with Russell Wilson for years, but he was a dual threat.

Joe could definitely leave. All he has to do is say, my ability speaks for itself. Trade me now to someone else for a bunch of 1st rounders and great players or I'll sit on the bench until you have no trade value and my contract is up.
