During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, LSU's Brian Kelly was asked what separated Jayden Daniels from Garrett Nussmeier in the quarterback competition to land the starting job. Per SDS:
quote:

“I think it was very close,” Kelly said. “Jayden’s experience maybe edged out Garrett at the end in terms of his poise. Garrett is a guy that has a lot of skills but maybe a little less experience, but that wasn’t his fault. … At times that showed. … You could see the poise and confidence that 3 years of starting gives you. Maybe that was the edge he had.”

In short. We need someone that can run for their life.

After the 2019 season, fans wanted nothing less than Joe Burrow but people forget that Burrow wasn't always Heisman material and he didn't do it on his own. That 2019 team as a whole was phenomenal. I think Daniels will improve with more experience but it's not gonna happen overnight. It's unrealistic to expect another National Championship anytime soon.

So Saban takes over in 99 and wins a Natty in 03. Les comes in 05 and wins a Natty in 07. Ed starts in 2016 and wins a Natty in 19. You're right,we aren't going to have a chance for at least 10 years.

I never said it would take 10 years. I simply said don't expect a 2019 season every year. Saban took 4, Miles took 2 with a lot of players still on the team from the Saban era, and Ed O. took 3 years. I think Kelly is a good hire and he'll work out a lot of the kinks but it could take a few seasons.

"It's unrealistic to expect another National Championship anytime soon."

"It could take a few seasons."

So which is it?

Kelly decided he would be the starter the moment he started recruiting him.

No fuss nuss just needs experience. He will be a good QB if he can beat out Howard or Collins. If not hes gone next year.

Let's see the view of Daniel's after a few fumbles and interceptions.

Simple. Daniels does not turn ball over. Nuss needs to more work to get there.

Valid. Nuss has all the physical tools. He just needs some seasoning.

I feel like Brian Kelly is massaging Nuss with words to keep him on the roster saying it was really close doesn’t seem like it when you see the play on the field

Nussmeir looked like hot garbage against southern. He is not and will never be the guy

Beyond putrid against a team that Zachary High School could probably beat.
If that is the future, LSU is a bottom dweller until he is gone.

Yall should suit up and shows us how it's done. I'm sure BK, Jayden, and Nuss could all learn so much from you both.

Nuss is not hot garbage. Look the difference between being below average, average and a hero is not that far apart for QBs. You have to let these new guys build on something for them to actually get better. He wanted to prove way too much when he got on the field and over time that goes away and they just start letting the game slow down and come to them. Once Nuss gets to that point, he will be very very very good. It wouldn’t take him very long either. I think half of a season is all he would need. He would get better and better and better every game. The OL and the WRs would get better and better with him back there also. He’s going to be fine but he’s going to have some real competition again next year. If the younger guys mature faster than he did then it’ll be tough. I like all our QBs but Jayden is just the right guy for this years team. That’s all there is too it. But if Jayden got hurt, Nuss would surprise people.
