ESPN analyst Brian Griese was on SportsCenter today and spent some time talking about the tough competition amongst the SEC West. When asked how he thinks the 15th-ranked LSU Tigers will end up in the Western Division, Griese wasn't too optimistic.
quote:

"Right now, I think they finish last,” Griese said. "Honestly. You look at Arkansas, and Arkansas is much better. Ole Miss and Mississippi State, Mississippi State crushed LSU at home. It was 34-10 at the start of the fourth quarter. People look at the box score, but really that game was nowhere near what it ended up being."

"You look at the schedule, at Auburn and at Florida, then you have Ole Miss and Alabama, and those last two games (Arkansas and Texas A&M), you tell me where they are going to get three or four wins on that schedule."
When asked about Les Miles starting freshman Brandon Harris at quarterback, Greise liked the decision, but doesn't think it's a great situation:
quote:

"I don’t like the situation, but I think it’s the right decision for Les Miles,” he said. "Brandon Harris is a playmaker. He throws the ball better than Anthony Jennings. We’ve seen Anthony Jennings struggle in the passing game. This is the future at quarterback for LSU, and I think the time is now to start to give him some experience.”

It's a talented team but extremely young team...my hope is that these guys will break the two and done habit at LSU. If this squad can manage to stick around then it's no reason why they can't compete for SEC Championships and/or National Titles in two years. I believe that before we won our last title in '07, that we were middle of the road a couple years before that. I can be patient if these guys want it...

Brian Griese wishes he was half the player Brandon Harris is.

Some of you people need to take off the blinders. LSU might be lucky to win three games in the SEC, and two of those could come against the East. This is not a great team, and Griese is just saying it like it is. How many NFL passes did you throw Sampson?!

Unless we beat Auburn, we will likely be underdogs in every SEC game except Kentucky & Ole Miss. So 2 more wins.

Can't disagree. Based on what we have seen so far that is not out of the question .

I am guessing he missed how Harris shredded the Moo State secondary and if would have played the whole game the game would have been close throughout?

I don't think so ...

His NFL "decisions" kept him in the league for 10 years. Not even sure what bearing that has on his prediction (which is completely rational, if you look at it objectively)

Bama looks like they are just a cut above the rest of the west, but after that, 2-7 could finish in just about any order at this point.

Sorry but I don't trust a guy who threw 99 interceptions in 10 NFL seasons. We don't lose more than 4 games. #HarrisTime

ok, I can agree that this is a fair assessment. But, what do they say when LSU beats Auburn? "We saw this coming with Auburn's near victory @ KSU!"
