Former Paul Finebaum Show producer John Hayes had some interesting comments this week about Ed Orgeron and LSU's coaching staff, suggesting that Dave Aranda and Joe Brady are the main reseason for the success this season.

Former LSU Tiger and Monday Night Football announcer Booger McFarland wasn't having any of that...

Great leaders always surround them selves with even greater talent. That's the secret sauce to any successful team or organization. This talking head obviously is a one man show who doesn't get it.... As Coach O says every signoff Geaux Tigers!

Amazing that Hayes and the Notre Dame puppet are on an SEC show.

It is presumptuous for a fan or sports exec to know exactly what one or a group of coaches might do to build a winning program. It is a team effort, just like it is on the field. Coach O will receive all the negatives when they loose. He will also give his staff much credit when they win. That is what effective leaders do. In group sports, it is never a singular effort but a group one. All Coach O has shown me is an ability to build a bright staff, delegate and undelegate when need be and motivating his players to achieve greatness. C'est tu.

Boog is 100% in the right on this one.

In fact, one of the mistakes he made at Ole Miss was trying to be TOO involved in coaching up the players.

Hey John, no one cares what you think or who get credit. As long as they are winning, please shut your piehole.

I hear a lot of this and have for years. everyone assumed he was a bad hire bc he wasnt jimbo or herman. I prefer him bc i love that guy. he loves the school, loves the state, and seems like a guy players would love to play for. he also went in humble just wanting the job. he didnt need to be the highest paid coach in the land. and part of his plan was to hire the best assistants now he is proving them wrong, and they are finding their reasons like always. "its his coordinators" and dude is trying to pretend like it wasnt a backhanded jab. i say take your stance now, put it out there, and eat the fkn crow when its served

Sadly I don’t believe that even the great Saint SABAN has enuf “Twig & Berries” for all of the CFB Media folks (esp SEC) to suck, gobble & twirl around in their mouths. Try as they do there’s just not enuf SUPPLY to meet the DEMAND!!!

Booger nailed it. I've been keeping a close eye on Coach Orgeron for many years. I just like the guy. And I knew when he was hired at LSU that he was the right hire. His coaching philosophy has changed a whole lot over the years. And LSU is fortunate to have him.

Typical of ALL CFB & especially SEC Media. Saban doesn’t have enuf DicNBalls foot em all to suck off. HCO is doing things that Les only talked about doing who gives a shite what Finebaum & Co think anyway

John Hayes was a cheerleader in high school and college. He shouldn't be commenting on Big-Time football coaches.

He didn't even mention Steve Ensminger. The offensive Coordinator, the guy calling the plays. But nobody gives him any recognition.

Real talk Zeek? He is outta here after this year. Well not outta here completely but Brady will be calling the plays. Dude is a young star. It's his offense. Ensminger just picks a play off a sheet. And even then Brady has imput. Ensminger is the middle man. Love the dude. But its Brady time.

Burrow seems to be giving E credit where it is due. In his post game comments he talked about the final touchdown to Chase. He said “Coach Steve” called up the play.

Is that what should be done to the offensive coordinator of the most explosive offense in the country. He should be fired. How many teams run the rpo spread offense, and do they lead the country in total offense. It's not just about the plays,it's more about when to call the plays. Steve Ensminger is a Tiger for life. Real Talk!

How the hell do any of you know the extent of coach Os involvement with coaching in practice and in games? To not give him credit is truly just complete guessing and totally ignorant.
user avatar
southsidedell61 months
Well I mean just looking at practice videos you can see he is pretty involved with the d lineman still...running drills all that.

As much as i dislike Alabama, I have a book named "Bear", and I'll paraphrase a line in the book where he states, "The head coach doesn't have to be great, the assistant coaches he hires need to be."

The HC is the organizer. Not all of them need to call plays to be great. Whatever your strength is...

saban over rides his DC and OC plenty to make calls. he did it with jimbo here and well shite it is his defensive schemes.
user avatar

Isn’t that what you constantly whine about while you’re consistently bashing O? Because he interferes with calls? But now you’re giving credit to other coaches for it? Hmmmm. Ok.

saban was and is a DC. they run sabans schemes. saban also is a hands on coach with dbs in practice like O with DL.
