The LSU coaching staff received some great news on Monday afternoon when inside linebacker Monty Rice announced that he has committed to the Tigers.

Rice, a 6-1, 227- pound prospect from Madison, AL is rated a four-star prospect by ESPN and Scout. He chose LSU over Georgia and Auburn.

Rice is expected to immediately sign financial aid paperwork with LSU, as will enroll early this upcoming January.

He is the No. 10 inside linebacker in the country and the No. 13 overall player from the state of Alabama for 2017, according to ESPN.

Securing linebackers for the class of 2017 is a top priority for LSU as the Tigers will lose seniors Kendell Beckwith and Duke Riley to graduation.

LSU missed out on top Baton Rouge linebackers Dylan Moses and Chris Allen who are both headed to Alabama next year. The commitment from Rice plugs a major hole for LSU.

From everything available this kid is an absolute baller but just didnt go to camps...similar size to Moses so im assuming he will play the same spot...im happy with Rice..the best way to get back at Moses is to forget him..dont boo him, dont even notice him...we got our stud ILB

His film is impressive. Very versatile and his size is outstanding. He will be a very, very good SEC MLB.

Monty Rice will be a better pro than Moses and Allen, NFL stats prove this to be a fact when comparing linebackers from LSU vs bama

They had their chance at greatness, they passed.

It does seem that there are more successful LB's in the pros from LSU than Bama

Lots of hot takes in either direction from people im guessing have seen this kid play exactly 0 downs.

No, I think Moses will play a few downs for Bama. Probably spend his 1st asason on special teams

5 stars in HS don't necessarily make 5 stars in College. 4 star that coachable to a scheme of a DC....that could make a 5 star college player. Good thing about Madison kids...whether it's Bob Jones or James Clemens...they all come with discipline. You can't coach that.

But signing more 5* players puts you in a better position to win. Bama proves that.

Tre'Davious White, Ethan Pocic, Kendell Beckwith, Derrius Guice, and Arden Key were all 4 stars coming out of high school.
