Brian Kelly and the LSU coaching staff landed a huge commitment on Friday night from five-star wide receiver Jalen Brown.

Brown, a 6-1, 170-pound receiver from Gulliver Prep in Miami, Fla. is rated the No. 4 wide receiver in the country for the class of 2023, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

He picked the Tigers over Florida State, Michigan, Texas A&M, and Miami.

LSU now has 13 verbal commitments for the class of 2023 with the addition of Brown.

Watching his highlights and I really like the way he keeps his hands from going up until right before the ball gets there. Last big recruit that did that exceptionally well is now one of the best receivers in the league, Jamar Chase (I’m not comparing them, everyone is their own person, just pointing out similarities). His speed is also elite, this is the exact reason Brian Kelly came to LSU. I’m impressed with the out of state guys but I hope he realizes in state 3 stars are equal to a high ranked 4 star. I’m really liking this staff and I fully trust them in recruiting.

Kelly and this staff know full well what’s in Louisiana. Y’all have to realize the reasons for all these OOS commits and recruits. It isn’t because they decided to start recruiting OOS guys when they got to LSU, it’s because our staff is from OOS and they were already recruiting them when they came to Louisiana. Of course they will and have been recruiting Louisiana as soon as they got here. We all saw the flood of Louisiana players from the portal coming back. There’s a reason for that. It’s to build pride in the LSU brand. We already see the 2024 guys committing from Louisiana. This staff didn’t have time to come into this 2023 class and land all the top guys here BUT with some momentum now and with a good season and more time to build relationships, we just might see some of these guys come back to LSU in the end. In fact I’m almost certain of it, especially if our season goes well. The trust in these coaches will rise. NIL will also have more depth to it by then. This class is only getting started. Remember we can now sign more then 25, as long as the 85 limit isn't surpassed. We’ll need more transfers, I’m sure of it but I’ll bet that the coaches will want to wait until they see this season before they start filling those spots. Long ways to go still, so just enjoy the ride because it’ll be a fun one. I can’t wait to see the improvements this staff has made and is making still. GT
