MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – Sam Merrill's three-pointer with 57 seconds remaining proved to be the winning bucket that allowed No. 15 Utah State to escape the Montego Bay Convention Centre with an 80-78 victory over LSU at the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic Friday night.

The Tigers fell to 3-2 and will play again on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. CT against Rhode Island, a winner Friday over North Texas in the event. Utah State is now 6-0 on the year.

Utah State rallied from 19 points down in the second half to tie the game at 71-71 with 4:11 to play. The teams then traded three-pointers to put the game at 74-74.

They suck. It will be a long season,. If u can't beat vcu or Utah st in basketball, how are u going to beat half the teams in the sec unless you are saying the sec is easier competition. How does LSU keep giving up leads keep turning the ball over multiple times? How?

Seems like the Tigers had the same problem last year. Big lead, fall asleep, lose game.

This will be a solid team before the end of the season. Some temporary growing pains with players in new roles is my guess.

I remember the same thing last year when they couldn’t successfully close out a game. That problem went away as the season went on. Let’s hope that happens again. Geaux Tigers.

Until we almost choked away a 10 point lead to Maryland in the second round of the tourney. And wait weren't we up by 7 with like 2 minutes to go against Florida in the SEC tourney?
