LSU head coach Johnny Jones announced Sunday night that the Tigers will not participate in a postseason tournament this year. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

“We will be able to utilize this time to get better and start preparations for next season. We fell short of the mark of getting to the NCAA Tournament; I take full responsibility for this team, and will do the things necessary to make sure we are able to reach one of our main goals at LSU in the future,” said LSU Head Coach Johnny Jones.

Jones consulted with his staff and met with the team earlier on Sunday before announcing his decision.

JJ is basically realizing at this point, if he's in the NIT, he'd have to win it all to calm down the masses....even then the season would still be considered a failure. The lack of fight in this team would have them losing in the first round of the NIT to some crap directional school. That right there would make him look so bad in the national eye and local media. He knows he's been beaten and he's calling it a season because he can't "coach" this team. I get losing to A&M, as they are a good team. But getting raped like that is unacceptable. JJ is looking to be in over his head.

I can't imagine a coach, much less an athletic director, being okay with turning down a postseason opportunity. Discounting the money, IMO this sets a very dangerous precedent of you and your program being quitters. Which is much worse than the financial loses..

Johnny Jones, Joe Alleva and King Alexander should all be fired. They are a complete failure. TAF needs step up and do the right thing when it comes to Jones and Alleva. Gone should be Jones, Alleva and N. Caldwell.

This is about right. With the exception of Hornsby and Blakeney, this team was full of quitters all year long.

For that game to be Hawthorne's last at LSU is stomach churning. Man deserved so much better after 32 years of work with LSU athletics. So ready for Johnny Jones to be let go.

Just sad and a shame for Jim. He deserved better and will always be a Tiger legend.

wow, but if that last pathetic game was the effort this team was going to give in a post season tournament, best to stay home. Sad

So I guess Hawthorne's last game was that pathetic shite show. Wow. Johnny is a disaster and needs to be shitcanned immediately. I defended him for a long time, but this is just gutless and petty.

How do we know this was Johnny Jones's decision? The school may have elected not to participate so they can fire the coach ASAP.

Hate is a strong word. But as far as being pathetic and a Bum for a coach thats another thing.

35 points. For the game. Anybody saw that as Ben Simmons' last stand at LSU?

Only way Johnny Jones to help the future of the LSU basketball team is by resigning. He has no coaching skills. Motivating players will only get a team so far. The current team made no adjustments during season after they were exposed by a few teams.

"elects not to participate" lmao. What a crock of shite. Johnny Jones is a fricking jackass.

The "begin work on next season" explanation is horse shite. If you accept a tournament bid, you can continue to practice/begin work on next season until you're eliminated. Rejecting a bid means your season is over and you can not continue practicing.

Smells like a PR move to save face. Must have gotten wind that we weren't going to make the cut, so Jones make this announcement to make it look like we decided not to participate.
