According to the Advocate, LSU pitcher Mac Marshall, the headliner of LSU’s top-ranked 2014 signing class will attend a junior college at Chipola College in Marianna, Florida next season.
quote:

Chipola College coach Jeff Johnson said Friday night that Marshall chose to leave in hopes of being drafted in June.

Junior college players are eligible for the draft after one year. If he had remained at LSU, Marshall would have had to play three seasons with the Tigers to be eligible for the draft.

“He wanted to get back in the draft,” Johnson said. “That is his goal, to get back in that arena and see what happens.”

“It was a personal decision,” Marshall wrote in a text message.

Was this guy even drafted out of high school? If so, why didn't he sign?

Hey, maybe his home situation changed and he's gotta try to put food on the table sooner rather than later.

“It was a personal decision,” Marshall wrote in a text message.

What other kind of decision would it be?

LSU gets the most competition from professional sports. Can you imagine if all of LSU's players in football and baseball weren't leaving early?

Does anyone know whether CPM tried to do anything to persuade him not to leave?

This is a part of being a college program. You're dealing with 18-20 year old kids who are trying to make decisions that will affect them for the rest of their lives. It sucks and it would have been better had he done it before signing day but give the kid a break. He was in high school 6 months ago.

Hate to wish bad luck on a kid but how can you screw over the team players and coach you supposedly were so excited to play for? This kid is either a complete lying douche or too dumb to make the grades in college.

If he actually attended classes, he should not be allowed to play anywhere but LSU in the spring. I know NCAA has no authority over JUCOs, but this is stupid.

I am guessing that this kid does not realize the average minor league baseball player makes less than minimum wage when you average in all the bus travel to go with the game time? Hope he enjoys it, because he has EARNED it!

@themunch. Nope can't sign another player. He fricked over LSU by attending classes and going past the deadline to withdraw..
