Earlier this week, disturbing footage involving two Hoover football coaches surfaced on social media... Now Hoover is officially moving on from head football coach Drew Gilmer and defensive coordinator Adam Helms. The Hoover City Board of Education accepted their resignations this Thursday...
quote:

"At a special, called meeting of the Hoover City Board of Education on August 8, 2024, the Board approved the acceptance of the resignations submitted by Drew Gilmer and Adam Helms. Both resignations are effective immediately," Superintendent Dr. Kevin Maddox said, via On3. “Chip English remains the interim Head Football Coach and will continue in this role for the remainder of the football season. We appreciate his willingness to serve in this capacity and support our players and coaching staff during this transition."

Maddox continued, "The past few days have been extremely unsettling for many of our varsity football players, coaches and the overall Hoover Community."

That is assault. If a teacher in a classroom did that they would be charged.

—but it isn’t a teacher in a classroom

But it is within the curriculum of the school.

When you lose the ability to inspire, all you have left are threats or belittlement.

Them boys are having the time of their lives out there. What I wouldn’t give to be back in high school with ol’ coach giving me shite everyday.

No idea why they got to resign. Should have been terminated with cause immediately.

To save face. They were allowed to resign. Schools believe firing is worse than resigning. You never see coaches fired. They resign. It’s the same thing. Stupid.

Exactly! It's to give the impression that they (the coaches) are taking responsibility for thier actions. However, in reality, they're given no choice in the matter.

No body was hurt. The last one he was just trying to grab the face mask and the guy fell backwards due to poor balance. They are obviously just trying to gave an intense practice. The same people complaining would get mad if the coaches hugged a player for “inappropriate” personal contact.

Wow people are soft. That is hilarious. I thought part of playing football was having thick skin.

Firing is more reflective of organizational control over a matter. Requesting and seeking resignation is weaker.

but the fired employee may have some recourse. Getting them to resign usually clears the employer of that risk.

Hmm, sexual assault on the first one, assault on the second one and child abuse on both if those kids are under 18. What in the hell is wrong with people. If those kids lnocked them out, i would have said nothing. Parents should 100% press charges.

Practice is designed to make you hard. Boot camp is designed to make you hard. Men need to be hard to survive/win on the battle and playing field.

Why weren't they fired on the spot? I think the video is clear! Now those POSs get to go get another job with no mention of the incident. Say what you want, but two young African Americans were assaulted by two, grown white men. It should never happen regardless of the color of their skin, but in reality, it did and I would sue the pants off of Hoover and the AHSAA because I guarantee you that this was not the first time this has occurred. It's going to get really ugly and I hope the parents win a huge settlement because no child should have to go through that.
