I understand his sentiments absolutely. That neutral site USC vs Bama game was Southern Cal’s chance to show the nation they were ready to be big boy relevant again. And as a Bama fan I was no way certain it was a Bama win. Someone that really knows please tell me where did that rabid USC fan base that demanded excellence go? Did they die?

They didn't "die"; they never lived. I lived in SoCal 3 years in the early 80'3 and I never saw or heard a "rabid" USC fan. much less fan base. This was shortly after "the greatest team of all time", so said the media before they squeaked by the Tigers in 1979 in Death Valley. Hollywood-type fans. Even the USC players were shocked by the intensity of the Tiger fans that night (I screamed my lungs out). These are the same people who remained seated and clapped after the Rams would score a touchdown. i couldn't believe it.

*80's, not 80'3...sorry

I'll second what Euler said... I lived there myself. Those fans come and go with the Santa Anna winds. They are all about a team until they lose, then its on to the next one... and they have plenty of professional and college teams to chose from when "their team" is out of the championship picture. What they are ALL waiting for every year is the Lakers... that is the one they.
