Multiple sources are reporting that Alabama head coach Nick Saban is hiring Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees for the same position on his staff.

Rees will replace Bill O'Brien, who left for the New England Patriots job in January.

The 30-year-old coach played quarterback for the Fighting Irish from 2010-2013 and has been Notre Dame's offensive coordinator since 2020. The Irish went 10-2 in his first year as OC, losing to eventual national champion Alabama in the CFP semifinal game.

So Rees’ old HC, who gave him his shot, couldn’t land him at LSU and we got stuck with the abysmal Denbrock offense? And now Saban hires Rees?? Great...

I was not thrilled with the Denbrock hire, but I was impressed this year. The offense stalled when Daniels couldn't/wouldn't make a decision and get rid of the ball, but it looked great when he let it fly. This was with a mediocre Oline and no stars at RB. The line will be good in '23 at the very least. Still waiting on a stud rb1, though. Denbrock has been better than I thought.
