We caught a lot when I was younger.
Trolling behind my dad’s party barge by the light house.

Deep diving crank baits / 17 foot of water.
I heard they are all gone now. They opened the locks and they got out.

I catch them while fishing bass or catfish at times. The discharge canal in Jarreau gets thick with them, a basic chicken rig on the bottom with a shrimp tail works…if you can keep it away from the catfish. Any shad colored crank bait or clear with glitter fluke cast into deep water and steady retrieve will pick them up if schooling. Now until October is your best shot at hybrids.

The fact they're sterile and cannot reproduce may have also been a factor.

We tore them up Easter weekend on the hospital side. I've never caught one out there before then but we went out around 9 pm and stayed till the bite slowed down after midnight. Uncle had a lead on the hotspot. Pictures were about 2 minutes before he fell over backwards and almost went swimming.
