Another Joe...

Posted by rationaltiger on 1/14/20 at 5:54 pm
Going to throw a name out there:

Joe Bleymaier - KC Chiefs passing game analyst. Interned three years with Andy Reid and has college experience.

With the TE weapons that LSU has coming into the program next year and the way the Chiefs use Travis Kelce someone from the Chiefs offensive staff could be an interesting get.

I have no ill will towards Brady. I honestly don’t think LSU is celebrating a Natty without him. Best of luck and interesting to see what comes next.
Already have seen Ohio State fans talking that they would have been a better matchup and a different outcome. Can we make this happen and eliminate all doubt.

Edit to add: I personally don't think any explanation is needed. But as a hater of all things tOSU I would love to see this team destroy them.
Honestly LSU won the game in those possessions.

They didn’t make a mistake when pinned back and only game up 1 score with Clemson on a short field. A turnover / safety or worst defensive play there and you could easily be looking at a 14 point plus deficit. Not making mistakes was huge there.

Ham sandwich and some boudin...

Posted by rationaltiger on 1/14/20 at 10:35 am
Don't know if it's been posted but my favorite quote last night from O may have come in his conversation with SVP. Asked how he was going to celebrate he said something along the lines of

"We have a nice suite here at the Marriott, I'll probably go up there with Kelly and my three boys - have a ham sandwich and some boudin."

So much to love there. But I can tell you as someone who was introduced to LA culture by my wife boudin is something most of the country has no idea about. I loved that he dropped that reference and am guessing a whole lot of people watching that interview were thinking - who or what in the hell is a "Boo Dan???"
Family night tonight - Canes and King Cake for dinner.

My 7yo daughter and LSU super fan gets to stay up late for this one.

6 hours!
When your student intern can’t even turn his iPhone into landscape mode when recording a video you know you have issues...

Keeping it simple - Canes and homemade King Cake.

Anyone get the feeling

CEH is about to have a career defining performance. Almost no talk about the LSU running game this week. I expect him to go off.

Superdome Music question

Posted by rationaltiger on 1/10/20 at 5:34 pm
Anyone know who / how Superdome music will be selected on Monday. I’m secretly hoping some booster has paid off the PA operator to pump Callin’ Baton Rouge at the start of the 4th quarter.
My purely personal angle.

I am originally from Ohio, married a BR gal / LSU Grad. We live in KC but every time I listen to Coach O talk I’m reminded immensely of my late father-in-law who was from Gueydan.

His intonation, word choice, even facial expressions and demeanor - it’s like I’m watching a video of my FIL. While we had a good relationship it could have been better, partially due to the fact it took me a long time to understand his culture, the way he approached life and yes even the way he talked. All that to say I understand how people can overlook and even disparage something they don’t fully understand. It’s a mistake I’ve made myself and regret

I wish I would have had more time with my FIL and I’m thankful for how Coach O reminds me of him.

Really is interesting to think about Auburn-LSU and the Fiesta bowl this year as they had so many of the same elements with different outcomes.

LSU left 18 points on the field in 2 empty red zone trips and 1 RZ field goal.

OSU did basically the same - left 19 points on the field in 1 empty RZ trip and 3 RZ field goals.

Both games could easily have been very lopsided.

Certainly hope LSU is better in the red zone this go around. Two fumbles lost and a turnover on downs just in the first half! ??

Has it been tried?

Posted by rationaltiger on 1/9/20 at 10:24 am
Was wondering this morning if any team has ever tried a six-receiver look? Is this legal per NCAA rules.

My thought process goes like this. Auburn ran a 3-1-7 defense. Clemson often runs a 3-2-5 defense. If the front three from Clemson struggled to get pressure could you come up with a set with 4 OL and 4 WR’s, 1 TE and 1 RB that could all release into routes?

Obviously would create an unbalanced line and create blitz concerns. That said with how quickly Joe gets rid of the ball and the ability of Moss and CEH to chip blitzing LB’s I was wondering if something like this could work.

Under the radar advantages

Posted by rationaltiger on 1/8/20 at 1:33 pm
With the extended break this game has been discussed ad nauseum. I don't watch Sportscenter et. all so I don't know if these things have been discussed but I think LSU has a few somewhat overlooked advantages.

First, would be the kicking game. Clemson's place kicker, B.T. Potter has had an up and down year going only 12/20 (60%) for FG's and only 8/15 (53%) for field goals over 30 yards. Whereas Cade York is 21/26 (81%) and 13/18 (72%) over 30 yards. If this game ends up being close I trust York a lot more than Potter to deliver.

Second, I think Shelvin is going to present a major matchup problem for the Clemson O-Line. Their O-Line has been fine but I don't think they have faced anyone at NT the caliber of Shelvin. Whether or not he shows up in the box score or not I think he makes a big impact. Either making plays himself or freeing up Chaisson, Divinity Jr. and Queen to make sacks and TFL's.

Third, Noise. A lot is being made of the Superdome advantage and where it could come into play most is with regards to noise. Clemson has played in very few truly hostile / loud environments. Probably their toughest away game over the past two years was A&M last year, a game they won 28-26. For as good as Lawrence is I expect the Superdome to be the loudest and most hostile environment he has played in, it will be interesting to see how he handles it.
As others have said here it depends on what you're looking for. We live in Kansas City so it's only about a 3.5 hour drive.

In 2018 we went and stayed at an AirBnB in Bentonville, already have it booked again for 2020.

I generally prefer Bentonville to Fayetteville unless you are really looking for a bar scene.

Bentonville has a world class art museum (Crystal Bridges) a very decent kids museum and a several great restaurants. If you are into mountain biking it is a haven for that as well.

We brought our two kids (6 / 1) to the game last year and had a great time. Arkansas' facilities are nice and tickets are very affordable.

ACC vs. Big 12

Posted by rationaltiger on 1/2/20 at 7:25 pm
Clemson and OU were both in the Top 5 in scoring and total offense. The question is how much is this inflated by level of competition. Big 12 was clearly weak this year and OU’s offense while good looked all words against their level of competition.

I think Clemson has a much better offense. Multiple receiving threats, a better QB and better RB. The question is how much is their offense inflated by a similar level of competition.

My sense is the Big 12 is actually slightly better than the ACC. Will be interesting to see LSU defense against another top 5 offense.

Brooks Kubena @BKubena Clyde Edwards-Helaire is here at practice. #LSU is not in pads, and he’s the first one in the rotation for individual drills.

Waiting for LesterEarl to confirm the validity of this report.
Better than Auburn.

I think a healthy Bama beats them, especially if they played Bama on the road.

Asking for a friend ... Best place to watch LSU v Clemson in Maui?

Maui is a fairly large island. Probably depends what part of the island you’ll be on.
I’m still new here but isn’t there a politics board for this crap?

From an apolitical standpoint the last thing I want is the distraction of presidential attention.

Clemson perspective on Fiesta bowl.

Posted by rationaltiger on 12/31/19 at 11:05 am
Interesting take on the Fiesta bowl from the Clemson perspective. Lawrence called it “The most physical game I’ve ever been in” and Dabo talked about it as a “15 round bout.”

It was a great game and OSU is definitely at a higher level than almost anyone Clemson has played in its current win streak.

That said when watching the game it didn’t seem really hard hitting. Especially in contrast to what Auburn, Alabama and Georgia bring to the table on defense.

Clemson is a great team. I don’t expect LSU to blow them out. That said I think LSU can bring more physicality than tOSU and from this article it will be interesting to see how Clemson handles it.
