Transferring a boat title

Was wondering if anyone had experience in transferring a boat title with a deceased parent. My dad passed away a little over a year ago, and he didnt have a will. My mom is trying to get the affairs in order and wants me to take the boat. I've looked up the forms on the LA W&F site and got the proper forms to transfer a decedent's boat. My main question , would the best option be for my mom to donate it to me? Or is it better for there to be a bill of sale, and her sell it to me for a dollar.
Before the assholes roll in, my mom is fine, finances are not an issue. And under no circumstances would she take any $ for the boat. My dad and I spent endless hours in it,I could never pay enough to equal its value to me.

I'm no lawyer, but the boat is also your mother's property, being they were married. She should be able to simply donate it to you with an act of donation.
Are you sure the boat is titled? Boat titles aren't required in Louisiana but are optional.
Boats are usually registered with LDWF. Trailers are registered and titled with the DMV.

Similar situation here, we opted to simply keep the registration up to date and didn't change a thing. When the renewal showed up in the mail I sent them a check and kept on using the boat.

Did this and now both MIL and FIL passed away. I gave up fishing and had let the paperwork go. Now I am trying to get it back. I was a dumb arse not getting it swapped over to me in the first place, but at the time right after MIL gave it to me, I had got sick.

Act of Donation for the trailer
Bill of Sale for the boat
Have both notarized then mail/email all docs to LDWF for transfers to your name.
