Novak Djokovic Got Defaulted From US Open After Hitting A Line Judge In The Neck

Novak Djokovic, the #1 seed, was defaulted from his fourth-round match at the US Open after he accidentally hit a line judge with a tennis ball...

This whole situation has left me really sad and empty. I checked on the lines person and the tournament told me that thank God she is feeling ok. I‘m extremely sorry to have caused her such stress. So unintended. So wrong. I’m not disclosing her name to respect her privacy. As for the disqualification, I need to go back within and work on my disappointment and turn this all into a lesson for my growth and evolution as a player and human being. I apologize to the @usopen tournament and everyone associated for my behavior. I’m very grateful to my team and family for being my rock support, and my fans for always being there with me. Thank you and I’m so sorry.

wow, that’s an extreme punishment for an accident. And it clearly affects the entire tournament and means the ultimate champion will have an asterisk next to his name. Just plain silly.

Jesus Christ that’s not over dramatic or anything. Sure it probably didn’t feel great getting a tennis ball to the neck but that broad folded like she’d been hit by a sniper.. as far as painful, that “apology” was excruciating to read.

Because he violated a very clear USTA rule against "hitting a ball dangerously or recklessly" after he got frustrated about losing a point, and he hurt someone else as a result of his recklessness. It was pretty obviously the right call.
