Yellowstone and Grand Teton

Planning a trip with my two pre-teen kids in June 2027 to Yellowstone and Grand Teton. 4 nights is YS and 3 nights in GT.
I'm planning to go some time at the end of May into June or mid to late June.
What would be the best time to go?
I hear wildlife viewing is best in May to early June, but some roads may still be closed.

The difference between the first and second week of June as far as crowds is huge. Find out the formal opening of the park for the Summer and go the week before.

We went to that area a few years ago in late May. A lot of the trails in Yellowstone were closed due to bears stirring around. No picnicking signs at numerous stopping spots.
It was a good time to go though. Not very crowded. We stay in Jackson Hole.
Also, even though its late May or early June, bring jackets. It snowed on us twice.

Go in late May. Historical data tells you most roads are opening at that time. Excellent wildlife viewing and the crowds will be minimal which is extremely important. West YS area is good base camp for entire park. I like to stay in the Victor Idaho area when visiting GTNP. It’s a cool area but you must navigate the pass each day to get to park which I didn’t mind. JaxHole was just too much of everything for my liking. Have a great time it’s a really special place

We did Grand Teton the weekend after Memorial Day. Weather was fantastic and, while crowded, was told it was significantly less than the prior weekend.

If you’re concerned about crowds, stay in the park. The first couple of hours of the day before commuters show up is worth it.
I bought a Moon Guide and it was pretty good.

I’ve been Memorial Weekend and was following snowplows as they opened the pass on YT. Bring warm clothes.

Do a whitewater rafting trip on the Snake River out of Jackson Hole. I'm not sure where you're staying, but figured you would be around that area on your GT days. Unless you're hiking a lot and camping in the park, I don't know if you need more than a day or two in GT. You're probably short on the time you need for Yellowstone. Rapids ought to be high early summer with snow melt, and the kids will love it. I used Mad River a couple of times, but there's several rafting companies you could try.
Mad River
I've both stayed in the park and outside the park. I'd vote staying at one of the lodges or campgrounds in the park. You don't have to fight nearly the traffic/crowds if you can head out early morning to get to the sites. We stayed around the lake area at Grant Village. It's centrally located. There's no AC or TV, but you don't need either. If you stay outside the park, you don't have to stay the whole time in one location. Do a couple days either in Jackson Hole, Gardiner, or West Yellowstone then a couple days in another. It's a long way from the south end of the park to the north end of the park. If you stay in the park, make sure you fill up with gas and maybe stop at a grocery store for food and drinks you can keep in an ice chest before entering the park. There's not a whole lot in the park as far as stores and restaurants.

Absolutely. It can get cold in a hurry up in the mountains, even in June. Make sure your kids pack more than flip flops and sandals too. Even without hiking, there's a lot of walking up and down switchback trails just to get to some of the easily accessible overlooks.

Highly recommend staying at Dornan's for your time in Grand Tetons if you can swing it. It's close enough to visit Jackson Hole if you want, but far enough from Jackson Hole to escape and beat the crowds when you head out for the day. Any of the cabins inside the park are great options too.
