Why do people on TD dislike Orlando, FL?

We just spent a week there and absolutely loved it
We stayed at a resort on the Disney property that had a huge lazy river. The hotel was awesome with great service and food
We didn’t even go to a Disney park because they were all sold out.
Orlando is a very clean and pretty city.
We spent a day at the fun spot. Nothing amazing as far as rides but the kids loved it
Drove over one day to cocoa beach and had a blast
Went out a few nights in downtown Orlando and had a blast - great bars and nightclubs
City walk was fun as duck one evening
Drove over to where I grew up at in Seminole Country and couldnt believe all of the new buildings, etc
We hit up an Orlando magic game one night and that was fun and their arena is amazing
Once they get I-4 completed that city is just going to be amazing
One thing about Orlando, it has tons of legit shopping malls and has every restaurant you could ever want in a city
The roads are well maintained and very clean.
The schools are very nice. I couldn’t believe my old high school. It looked like a community college. The school now has 32 computer labs, awesome sports venues, etc
There is so much shite to do in Orlando.
Sure, the traffic sucks but once they get I- 4 finished that should help
The airport is one of the best ones I have ever been to
No to mention, Tampa is basically right down the road
I just don’t understand why a lot of people on here hate the place. I love it and hopefully one day have the ability to move back

probably the over-commercialism

Honestly outside of Disney I've never seen Orlando up close.
Disney designs it so you never have to leave Disney property so you spend all your money in their property.

Here is a small part of downtown Orlando

Lots of people think they are too cool for Disney, and don't understand there's a lot more to Orlando than Disney.
Just like a lot of people think they are too cool for a cruise.

Disney is now more for adults than kids lol
Disney Springs is amazing. I remember back in the day going there all the time when it was Pleasure Island.
The nightclubs in downtown Orlando are like bars and clubs in Miami

I enjoy being on site at Disney and Universal, but went to do Sea World and some other things one year and rented a house. Traffic was a total pain in the arse going pretty much anywhere. However, the rates you can get on a nice house with a pool are crazy cheap. Nowhere else in the southeast compares.

But traffic is shite anywhere you go
Destin
Alabama beaches
Nashville
Atlanta
Miami
Las Vegas
Sure, I hate traffic but it’s just part of living
I tell ya one thing I love doing while sitting in traffic in places I am visiting is to listen to local radio stations. Hear the commercials on restaurants, bars, etc
Pretty much IMO if a local establishment is advertising in the radio then it has to be a happening place
I was in Tampa a few weeks ago and was listening to local radio while sitting in traffic (on a business trip)
And heard a commercial about DJ Tiesto live in one of the clubs. If I would had been in town I would have went to that event. I wouldn’t have known anything about it if I wasn’t listening to local radio while sitting in traffic

There's a TON of shite to do in orlando. I was very impressed when I went in October. Going back for another universal trip in June.

That’s not how it works.

I like Orlando a lot. Haven't been in 6-7 years, though.

There’s no breeze. It’s a great city but very hot. Seems like it’s one of the hottest places in the state.

Grew up in Central FL. Lived there for 12 years in Orlando. Been in Nashville 22 years. Wouldn't ever move back. But that's just me.
I don't dislike Orlando. It's actually a very cool city. Some of the newer areas since I lived there like the Thornton Park District are really neat. Walking around Lake Eola. Downtown is much has improved since I left. And, you always have had great access to springs (like tubing Rock Springs is one of life's great pleasures), beaches etc.
Why? Crowds. Traffic. My wife could never stand the buses of Brazilians they'd bring to the nearby grocery stores. Just flood the place. Pushy. Rude. Which might be how locals view a lot of the tourist that come there frankly.
And then there's Disney. They come off as all family like and such, but behind the scenes...

I live here. Come back in August
All said, it's definitely not a bad place to be. I'm not a theme park junkie so it's been years since I've been. Keep in mind, you can judge a place based on a week long vacation.
If you come back, check out some of the springs in the area for some natural beauty - that might be my favorite thing to do.

We used to have some business dealings with them. Just my opinion..Elitist attitudes. For example if you didn't call their employees cast members they got upset. The fact that they have their own municipality and not reporting incidents you wouldn't hear about. Amount of concessions given by local governments. The amount of executive compensation given. Not sure how good labor relations are these days but there have been often issues. Could go on but those are some of the points.

Theme park kind of thing. Seems to maybe have a little bit of a state fair type vibe to it.
Fun spot
Going to Orlando this summer. We are planning to do Seaworld, Aquatica, and Discovery Cove. I had never heard of Discovery Cove until I came across it on the Seaworld site. Looks pretty interesting.

I've only been to Orlando 3 or 4 times over the last 10-20 years. and a couple of those were just for Disney so I don't really count those. The other 2 times were for a work trip and the Bama bowl game there in 2010. Not really enough to get a feel for the city overall, but for lack of a better word it just seemed bland to me. The downtown area was nice enough, but didn't really make an impression on me in a positive or negative way. Just seemed like a city that was just there.
I didn't hate it, but it's not a city I'm pining to go back to anytime soon. Their airport is pretty nice and easy though.

Slave labor, promoting family destabilizing values, kids eaten by alligators, just to name a few.
